Thirty-six percent (36%) of Americans Approve of the way that George W. Bush is performing his role as President. Just 15% Strongly Approve. Those are the lowest levels ever measured by Rasmussen Reports. Just 65% of Republicans approve of the President's Job Performance, also a new low.
This data is based upon nightly telephone surveys and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. For today's update, more than 75% of respondents were interviewed after the President Bush's speech on immigration.
Just 39% of voters agree with the President's approach on immigration. Most consider the issue very important and believe that strict enforcement of immigration laws will help the economy.
Democrats now hold a 15-percentage point lead over Republicans on the Generic Congressional Ballot. Before the Presdent's speech, they had a 10-point lead. Just 27% of Americans believe the country is now heading in the right direction.
While the President's numbers have fallen, Hillary Clinton's poll numbers are the best they've been in more than a year of Hillary Meter polling by Rasmussen Reports. Another Democrat doing well is Ted Strickland. He maintains a double digit lead in his effort to become the first Democratic Governor of Ohio in 16 years.
Also in Ohio. Congressman Sherrod Brown (D) leads incumbent Senator Mike DeWine (R) by three percentage points. Though within the poll's margin of error, it's the first time Brown has had a lead of any sort.
Montana Senator Conrad Burns (R) once again trails both Democrats seeking his job. Dragged down by his association with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Burns' poll numbers are worse than those for a relatively unknown GOP challenger.
Washington Senator Maria Cantwell (D) has been on the defensive lately and her lead has shrunk to five percentage points. When the year began, she was up by 15.

He just signed extension of tax cuts, he appointed two very conservative judges to the Supreme court, and he is magnificently leading the nation in the war on terror. That is a lot of political clout.
If he isn't congress is. I suspect they are worried about November.

Many of the 6 million that got caught were successful on the second or third attempt, so they're part of the 12 million now.

One good thing about Bush's stinking ratings is that he has no authority to lobby for the guest worker plan.
If Bush's ratings were in the 60's, then he might be able to pass the guest worker plan with a majority of House Republicans.

Send him a letter telling him that. Send it regular mail, it shows more personal concern then the angry e-mails do.

He did not back down on the Dubai Ports deal.
More important regarding our subject at hands, illegal immigration, he is not following what the polls are claiming.

You are underestimating him HitmanLV. This is the fatal error of his political opponents for so many years.
No, after 9/11, and the fact that most of the hijackers were here illegally, any sane person would have sealed the border and taken active measures to throw millions, not all, of the criminal aliens out of here.
That's why we need proven border security before we address guest workers. Otherwise it's just an invitation to illegals not here yet to start packing for the trip north.
My idea of meaningful legislation is to incorporate the Border Patrol into the Coast Guard, rename the Coast Guard something inane like The Gatekeepers and expand their purview from the coasts to the north and south borders.
The rest is all garbage. Simpson/Mazzoli already has the requisite power of law to deal with employers and illegals. And those laws have been ignored for 20 years.
What is new law going to do? Nothing of course.
Bush has become the Republican Jimmy Carter. At least we got some good judges out of it though.

Didn't back down? He went so far as to threatened a veto to any bill that didn't include Dubai. You can't honestly say he didn't hear the conservative voices on the Miers nomination. Come on, I like the guy too. I served under both Bush's but there's no way you can say he didn't change his mind based on the polls and the conservative outcry.
That is true and it is a trait to be admired.
However, when that trait conflicts with his oath to the Constitution a problem arises. He is charged with enforcing the laws and securing the borders. His principles are in conflict with that oath but the oath should override. That is does not disappoints me. That it will negatively impact the war with islamofascists pisses me off.
