Harriet Miers nomination was killed by the Republican Senators.

He did not back down on the Dubai Ports deal.

More important regarding our subject at hands, illegal immigration, he is not following what the polls are claiming.

Conclusion: He is a Great Leader.

Didn't back down? He went so far as to threatened a veto to any bill that didn't include Dubai. You can't honestly say he didn't hear the conservative voices on the Miers nomination. Come on, I like the guy too. I served under both Bush's but there's no way you can say he didn't change his mind based on the polls and the conservative outcry.
