Breaking News: FBI Searches Wooded Area for Hoffa
By Cheryl Chodun
Web produced by Seth Myers
May 17, 2006

A group of FBI investigators is searching a wooded area in the vicinity of Milford and Wixom in connection with the 1975 disappearance of Teamsters’ leader Jimmy Hoffa.

Investigators have cordoned off a section of woods where the bones of the long-missing union official may lie.

Hoffa was last seen at the Mocas Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township in July 1975.

Speculation regarding his whereabouts – or his body’s whereabouts – certainly comes and goes.

Recently, a mob hitman named Richard "The Iceman" Kuklinski wrote a book claiming that Hoffa’s body was compacted in a car that became scrap metal in New Jersey.

Kuklinski died in prison earlier this year. His book, The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer, is set to be published in July.

In 2004, investigators searched a Detroit home when another mobster claimed Hoffa was killed there. Investigators ruled blood found in the house was not Hoffa’s.

Well the real "good" reason is that what's left of him might contain clues that lead to the prosecution of whoever killed him. But let's face it, the reality is always "follow the money" and there's a lot of money to be made bringing Hoffa back into the spotlight.

Yep, northside of Detroit. I don't know the area well enough to name off the suburban milestones, but the USAF shuttlebus ride to Detroitville was generally to the south and east.

Hey you don't suppose old Jimmy is dumped somewhere on Selfridge do you? That'd keep the nosy curious and newsies from enquiring particularly effectively....

I regret to say that I am old enough to remember both of those album covers very well. They didn't all look like Janis Joplin in the late 60s.

Makes no sense, the mob has so many foundations or better yet pet food companies to dispose of him in.
Why anything in the woods?

They found Tony *the Ant* Spilotro and his brother Mikey disposed of in a shallow grave in a cornfield near Knox, Indiana in June 1986 after someone had mistaken them for baseballs and applied a bat accordingly. But there was sand in their lungs, leading the coroiners' to report that they'd been alive when buried. Somebody was sending a little message....

Spilotro's been dead 20 years now, he's been portrayed a couple of times on TV or in movies and several books [see the Robert De Niro movie Casino] and his old lawyer Oscar Goodman is mayor of Vegas now. And, oh yeah, a couple of days back, they found a couple more bodies up around Knox, Indiana....

"Is there a stadium there?"

Not in the Wixom-Milford area. That's northwest of the Detroit area, getting more out into rural Michigan, on the way to Lansing. I used to live close to that area. If they find him up there, it will be interesting to see how close he was to the places I used to drive by all the time.

I liked the Red Fox. Only we didn't go to the one on Telegraph Road, we went to the one in Rochester.

Wasn't the girl in the whipped cream on Herb Alpert's album cover his wife?

During the bad Giant years growing up, my father always told me Hoffa was tripping people in the endzone and blocking field goals. I haven't seen a championship in a number years, and hold on to the belief that he's still there (and my team doesn't just stink).

If he's ensconced in concrete, they better bring their jackhammers.
