An open letter to William P. Leahy, SJ, president of Boston College.
I am writing to resign my post as an adjunct professor of English at Boston College.
I am doing so -- after five years at BC, and with tremendous regret -- as a direct result of your decision to invite Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to be the commencement speaker at this year's graduation.
Many members of the faculty and student body already have voiced their objection to the invitation, arguing that Rice's actions as secretary of state are inconsistent with the broader humanistic values of the university and the Catholic and Jesuit traditions from which those values derive.
But I am not writing this letter simply because of an objection to the war against Iraq. My concern is more fundamental. Simply put, Rice is a liar.
She has lied to the American people knowingly, repeatedly, often extravagantly over the past five years, in an effort to justify a pathologically misguided foreign policy.

I had many Uglo-Liberals in the English, literature, and social sciences courses.
Fortunately, most of my math and science teachers were mature men, most of them conservatives, and they offered a nice counterbalance to the liberal wackos.
Hahah.. yea its such an insult that the Secretary of State give a commencement address... many these folks are just moonbats.
Good riddance to bad rubbish, take your friends with ya.
Dear Mr. Almond,
My give a damn's busted.
What a jerk.
Waaaah, quick someone change his diaper.
Hasta la Vista @##*&*&#@!!!
Liberal-speak for "shout her down and interrupt her speech". What libs do when they can't win arguments on the merits.
A bunch of professors seem in dire need for First Amendment "sensitivity training".
If Rice were not a public figure, and perhaps even though she is, this is called "Defamation of Character". The response should be "Prove it in court". You must prove the statements made were contrary to fact, and that the person making them knew that they were contrary to fact.
Good luck sucka!
I was just reading a book called "Proud to be a Liberal" by this guy, Eric Alterman and other assorted losers, "Proud to be a Liberal". Almond's chapter was called "Asserting the Primacy of Love Over Hate" (he equates conservatism with hatred).
I'm ashamed to say that at Michigan State we had an almost as idiotic reaction when Secretary Rice came to Michigan State. Of course, Almond has things almost exactly reversed. Since most leftists believe that "the personal is political" most are incapable of disagreeing without hating.
Ditto to all the posts so far but I am touched by Mr. Almond's concern for the "impressionable" seniors who might be exposed to Dr. Rice's speech. Frankly, if they are as impressionable as Mr. Almond thinks they are, then clearly the BC faculty members aren't doing much of a job to prepare their students for the real world outside academia. Don't they realize these kids will no longer be protected from the big, bad world of conflicting world visions? Are these kids ready to face a nation of more than half conservatives? Shame on Mr. Almond and his ilk! (Of course, maybe they just hope the little shell-shocked graduates will slink back to get higher degrees and spend a few more years in the liberal cocoon while supporting the faculty in their cloistered kingdom.)
meanwhile from Bloggers and Personals, a BC Sociology prof.
thinks Rice will be charged with war crimes.

The Party of tolerance strikes again.
i wonder if the professor would have resigned if William J. Clinton were invited to speak at the commencement ceremony... he is a known liar... i doubt it...
I hope someone sends this letter to Pope Benedict XV. Since "humanistic values" and Catholic values are incompatible, it would seem that Mr. Nut (that's what an Almond is, isn't it?) should be banned from teaching at any Catholic university as those universities are required to insist that faculty members do not take anti-Catholic positions.
Adjunct professor ALSO means he didn't have tenure.
Mayhaps there was a reason for that. . . .
This guys really an idiot. His address and phone number are published.
I hope this catches on. More colleges and universities need to invite Bush administration people. I'd like to see them invite VP Cheney. They could wipe out their entire staff in one sweep. This is a good thing.
