ORLANDO, Fla. - President Bush, his approval ratings at a record low, acknowledged Wednesday that war in Iraq and rising gas prices have created "battle fatigue" among many Americans.
That anxiety, Bush said, has settled over much of the nation as people worry about whether the United States will succeed in Iraq and how they will afford to fill up their tanks.
"There's a sense of disquiet because of the war in Iraq," said Bush, in an hour-long interview with the Orlando Sentinel and six other Florida newspapers.

Curious that he never mentions the outrage over illegal immigration.
I thought Bush didn't look at the polls.
was just thinking the same thing
he is in denial
Especially since that's the major cause of his polls dropping.
President Bush, his approval ratings at a record low, acknowledged Wednesday that war in Iraq and rising gas prices have created "battle fatigue" among many Americans.
It's the illegal immigration, Stupid!
To me, it's (a) illegal immigrants and (b) uncontrolled spending, (c) abysmal pubic relations efforts against opponents of the war on Islamic terror.
No, he never said that he didn't look at the polls in general. He doesn't use polls to make decisions. That is a completely different issue.
He's so damn out of touch with anything. Period.
Still, this is the WRONG approach. Stop giving good reasons for low polls. Stand up for your own policies, period. Fight.
That isn't the reason in my book. My support in him hasn't changed about the war and never will.
He needs to start talking about what is really the reason for his sinking numbers and support. That 900 pound gorilla in the room.
No Mr. President. Most of us support you on Iraq and know that there isn't a lot you can do about the gas prices. What we are concerned about are our borders.
At least he's talking to us now. That's a good sign.
>>Curious that he never mentions the outrage over illegal immigration.<<
that's not the main thing that people site - the study I looked at listed immigratio fourth behind Iraq, Gas prices, the economy(and yes I know that ridiculous) and then immigrations.
My three main concerns don't even make the list - terrorism, individual rights and the deficit.
See you're one of the ornery Old Americans, the whole point of illegal immigration is to replace the likes of you with a more pliant and submissive population.
The President isn't stupid. He knows support for amnesty is driving him downward. Listen to Mehlman and Rove. They have addressed their strategy is to concentrate on the base for the summer. That's open acknowledgement they understand the source of their trouble.
The fact he doesn't mention it, though, only makes it more glarring in its omission.
