WASHINGTON - Angry conservatives are driving the approval ratings of President Bush and the GOP-led Congress to dismal new lows, according to an AP-Ipsos poll that underscores why Republicans fear an Election Day massacre.
Six months out, the intensity of opposition to Bush and Congress has risen sharply, along with the percentage of Americans who believe the nation is on the wrong track.
The AP-Ipsos poll also suggests that Democratic voters are far more motivated than Republicans. Elections in the middle of a presidents term traditionally favor the party whose core supporters are the most energized.

At our Republican State Convention in Augusta Maine this past weekend, one of the 3 Primary Republican Gubinatorial Candidates remarked that it is better - at least more honorable - to lose because of one's principles than to abandon or compromise them in order to "win".
Unfortunately, we probably WILL lose either way, at this point, if somebody down there in Washington dosent catch a major clue ASAP.
LOL
In terms of 'nasty' you have me beat, but I am doing my best to keep up. You do give me a run for the money.
I didn't look for any of your comments because I know the type of things you post -- attacks and innuendo. I need not waste my time looking. That doesn't mean that I won't challenge you when you post nonsense. At least when you are getting nasty with me, you're leaving someone else alone.
Yeah, sure.
Well said. Bush has been AWOL domestically since 2004.
So does Osama bin Laden. As the perpetrator of 9-11, he should have been the first evil one taken out. Saddam was a bit player, but we went after him instead of Osama.
Thank you Sunny. GOD is what America needs a bit more of. People lack meaning in their lives, and this causes anger and discontent. If they would just look to GOD for answers, many people would be open to the miracles and blessings that happen ALL around them!
GOD Bless,

You and the president and each and every member of Congress can give as much as they want to alieviate the suffering of those in need. They have no legitimate authority to take money from anyone to give to another.
My God, the Lord Christ Jesus, tells me to help too and I do to the best of my ability. He doesn't tell me to put a gun in your face to fund my idea of charity and that is exactly what the government does when it taxes us to do their 'good deeds', which are more like vote buying than anything else.
You're right. You are FEELING your way through this. I'm relying only on facts. You are using one unconstitutional act (foreign aid) to justify another. It's also because so many now rely on the government to bail them out that they do not take the necessary steps to protect themselves. Why should they pay for insurance when Uncle Sugar will pay?
I think that after surviving the first one or two hurricanes that I would have packed up what was left and moved. Maybe I learn quicker than you. Stay there if you want, but you don't deserve tax money any more than the people who build homes near fire prone forests or flood prone river areas. Buy insurance. Save lots of money to rebuild yourself. Do something, but the rest of the country should not be forced to pay for your decisions when they have no choice in whether to pay.
What you take out of your pocket is compassionate. What the government takes at the point of a gun is coercin. Don't you understand the difference?
Go ahead and play the sympathy card and the God card and the 'You're going to hell' card because I think that the government should stay within it's written legal bounds.
Agreed. Ironically, they're the ones I get my best lawyer jokes from...
;-)
So, what do you do with a RINO and a Democrat as the only two choices?
Go third party or not vote in that election.
What if it was the RINO against, say, hillary clinton?
A third-party vote may as well be a no-vote for a Presidential candidate...would you seriesly stay home?
Me too.
A very few of them, I vote for. Scary.
If the best that the GOP can do is put up a RINO against the Beast, yeah, I'd vote 3rd party.
What is the difference between a baby killing, gun grabbing, big government, tax and spend, liberal Republican and a baby killing, gun grabbing, big government, tax and spend, liberal Democrat that would make me want to vote for some murky notion of the 'lesser evil'? They are both evil and will both take us where I don't want to go. At least my hands and my conscience will be clean.
Hit and run, huh? Nice try.
Look, most every area has it's risks. Pick yours and deal with it. How did we ever survive and thrive without federal assistance, or didn't disasters occur here before FEMA was born?
So you think that what ever SCOTUS decides is right? Do you know that they have reversed themselves over 125 times in just the last 50 years? I guess things aren't as final as you seem to think.
Anyone with brains and common sense can read that document and see what is constitutional without relying on lawyers or black robed priests. They are just men and many have agendas that do not include any fidelity to the Constitution or to the ideas that made America great.
Charity is fine. Helping your neighbor is your Christian duty and mine. Socialism and preemptive coercion are not the American way and I will support neither.
As for your jumping to faulty conclusions, I am a Christian conservative registered as a Republican who loves liberty and has a deep abiding belief in limited government as laid out in our Constitution. Government cannot -- legitimately -- do what anything it wants to because it feels good (that's so 60ish) even if the Supremes go along.
Do you think the Income Tax and the IRS are good American institutions? I guess that you do since it appears that you see emanations from penumbras when it suits your needs.
Yada yada yada, blah blah blah. You sound like the adults on a Charlie Brown special. No hit and run here, I'm just bored with your tired and well worn arguments.
LLS
And you expect me to respond to that?
Take a hike.......
In the world of politics, the very definition of it sometime precludes a few so called principles.
Unfortunately for some on this board, principles appear to include opinions!
While some real principles, such as a balanced budget, strong military, the lowest possible taxes and less government regulation are of utmost importance, the reality of politics requires that one or more of them be traded in part for the successful attainment of the others.
It is called the art of compromise.
The problem with some people is that they reject politics in favor of authoritarianism. This creates a conflict and that conflict cannot be mitigated within the party.
It will be more clear during the rest of Bush's second term that the RNC will move on without it's detractors and that the so called base will be reformatted to fit the reality of the political landscape.
