It is all rather sudden. Something must have caused it. Some speculating now that Negroponte's status as intelligence czar was the reason. I doubt it.

I honestly have to plead stupidity on this. I understand it's a high profile position, but it sounds like people are heading for their bomb shelters. I am failing miserably at connecting the dots...

The trepidation is about what happens next and whether any serious reform has happened or can ever happen at the CIA. Many of us at least hoped that Goss was on an ass-kicking, house-cleaning mission, yet it is impossible to believe he has cleansed the Augean Stables so quickly. So has he been defeated within the CIA, or has he accomplished a certain amount and just thinks now is the best time to hand things off to a long-term successor who will continue the reforms? Is the CIA going to be dragged out of the sick Pflame-Wilson-McCarthy-McGovern-VIPS era, or have the bureaucratic back-stabbers defeated Goss and Pres. Bush??
