The head of the Democratic Party said Wednesday that unchecked U.S. reliance on foreign oil helps fund terrorists and the nation must address its energy needs in a way that creates jobs.
Howard Dean, in a speech to the American Jewish Committee, said new industries should emerge to develop alternative fuel sources. The other option, he said, is continued support of Islamic schools that teach hatred of the United States and Israel.
"We are committed to ending our standing while our oil money (provides) indirect funding of fundamentalist Islamic schools all over the world," he said.
Dean took a swipe at the Republican Party, saying the Democratic Party is one of inclusion and religious freedom.
"I was recently asked about the difference between the Democratic and Republican parties," Dean said. "When it comes right down to it, the essential difference is that the Democrats fundamentally believe it is important to make sure that American Jews feel comfortable being American Jews."
Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, who is Jewish, addressed the group on Tuesday.
Dean decried energy industry subsidies, suspected price gouging and what he called a lack of leadership in Iraq. He also said any confrontation with Iran should be handled in a better way than the one with Iraq.
"Iran will not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons - period. They threaten the world. They threaten the United States of America," he said.
The machinations of Dean's mind is obtuse.
Sadly it is the so-called religious right that makes some nervous. They have no better friends in the world but can't see it.
the one they have works fine for me. As a matter of fact I want 24/7 wall to wall Howard Dean. The more of him, the better. He represents exactly what the DNC is all about. Sooner or later he'll drive the minority of somewhat sane Democrats out of the party effectively ending their party as a political force.
Yes...he is, isn't it GREAT????
The best friend a Republican has right now.
When I read this I just knew that there has to be a bunch of speeches or articles that would contradict his statement to this group....
Thanks, there is one...
NO, not really, they don't...unless you want the Dems to win.
I guess the demoncrats are inclusive of the following religions:

Dean makes non-idiots uncomfortable.
Alexander Rubin (Jewish): Dean makes me uncomfortable
While the GOP may make many Jews uncomfortable, I think a closer look at the Democrats would make them even more uncomfortable.
In fact, let's look at what some 'progressives'/soft socialists have to say about the religious right (which does include Jews), Israel, terrorists (/insurgents/resistance fighters/liberators), how the state should forcibly educate your children (oh, that's right...fewer choices of school for the little angels :( )), etc. etc. etc.
Hrmmm...
This explains why more and more Jews are voting Democrat, Mr. Dean, right? Right? I mean...more and more Jews are feeling more and more comfortable with the Democratic party and are staying in their little liberal ghetto. Right? That's why you're not panicking and saying these things? Hrmm?
Heh. Keep up the good work. And don't scream too loudly when the truth bites you on the ass.
About the only thing Deanie Weenie is good for is chum. Are sharks cannibalistic?
Race card. They never let up, do they? The leadership of the left and the DIMs is racist and anti semitic. The list of their bigotries is nearly endless.
And, by virtue of their unwillingness to report it as such, the MSM is guilty of the same.
I hope (but not with any expectations) that the democratic "man in the street" finds this behavior as repulsive as it surely is. The fact that (a lot of) Jews can sit in an audience and listen to this kind of swill, without walking out, is proof that for them liberalism trumps their religion. I find that extremely sad. And a little scary.
I know.
Well, religious Jews and conservative Jews are seeing it. We may be a minority, but we're not an inconsequential minority. Somewhere between a fifth and a third, generally. Much higher when you count the orthodox and/or even the upper levels of the conservative denomination.
And, a lot of other Jews are coming round. Even realistic worst-case scenarios.
Liberal atheist New York Jew: "Gee, which would I rather have? An evangelical Christian preaching to me about morality (maybe even Jesus), and telling me how much he loves Israel and the Hebrew people? Or a terrorist trying to saw off my head, or blow up my kids at school? This is a stumper..."
It's not going to happen quickly, or in radical shifts. It'll be a slow, steady trickle.
"Who outside of Republicans have backed Israel?"
Indeed.
Apparently, Jews of the secular Left do not feel much of a bond with the State of Israel.
Instead they relish in creating and furthering the myth of a threat from the Christian right. I believe there is a certain comfort, and a built-in excuse for certain behaviors, in positioning oneself as perpetually persecuted.
He must have forgotten that Ken Mehlman is Jewish. Dean is truly a dope.
Not all Jewish people are religious, especially IMO in the Democrat party.
We can say the same for others as well of course.
I am shocked by what often seems their betrayal of Israel.

I really thought the GOP could do no better than have Terry McAuliffe as DNC Chair. Obviously, I was proven wrong. Can we make it a law that Dean has to remain DNC Chairman for the next two decades? He is fantastic!
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
