I don't know if that would keep me from voting for him but it may. I admit to not knowing much about the LDS.
You should have noted the column is penned by ROBERT NOVAK.
Are we harking back to the days
of anti-Kennedy?
There are so many other reasons not to vote for Romney than his religion.
That said, if it's the Mormon vs. the Hildebeast, I know where my vote is going.
Novak. That said, there are those, even on this site, who would never vote for a member of the LDS church for President. Occasionally, there is some pretty nasty stuff said about the Mormons here, sad to say.
Next we'll have some Scientologist running. What will folks say then??
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

The reason I wouldn't vote for him is because he has not taken a pro-life stand while governor of MA. My gut tells me that he is pro-life because he's a Mormon, but he put his views behind him so that he could get elected governor in MA. And not only that, he got a crazy bill passed recently that makes it against the law for anyone in that state to not carry health insurance. The guy is not a conservative. Either that or he didn't have the guts to stand up for conservative values because he wanted to be governor of Massachusetts.
The Christian right would rather have a pagan commie in office than a Morman?
Someone, please make sense of that and then explain it to me?
As if we haven't noticed the sudden attention to polygamy......coincidence...doubtful.
Ignorance and fear can still rule the day.
My view on evangelical Christians is that although I don't expect them to leave their faith at the door before they venture into the voting booth, I'd like to remind them that their Bible shows that their Savior was perfectly capable of spreading his Gospel when the government of Palestine was run by morbid Pagans who practiced witchcraft, blood sacrifice, and threw Christians to the lions for sport. Despite all of that, Christianity flourished.
By comparison, do the Mormons *really* sound so bad to Evangelicals that they couldn't vote for one to defend the US Constitution?
If it's *really* come to that, then I do believe that it's come time that Evangelical Christians need to find unclaimed territory somewhere outside of international law and start their own society devoid of contact with the outside world.
Does Novak really believe it is "unconstitutional" for voters to factor in a candidate's religion in making a choice?
That said, Romney's abortion wafflings will cost him more evangelical votes than his Mormonism.
... keep an eye out for flying pigs.
"If Romney is nominated and their abstention results in the election of Hillary Rodham Clinton, that's just too bad."
Foolish people.
And these are the same folks who voted for "W" because he's a Christian ... while "W" sucks up to Muslims saying "Islam a "noble" "religion" of "peace"". I'm a Christian, and I believe Mormon theology is flawed, but I'll take Mormon theology over pandering to Islam any day.
I used to think I'd have no problem voting for a devout Mormon. Then I talked to my Pastor who was raised in the Mormon church. I just asked him why is he not a Mormon anymore. 4 hours later when he was done telling me all he went through as a Mormon....I'd have a hard time voting for Romney.
Maybe Republicans should consider finding new friends. If this is representative of the evangelical constituency (and I don't really think it is), these guys have a problem.
