Just saw United 93-- I thought it was excellent. It evolves in real-time and its cuts back and forth between the Air Traffic controllers, the Military room, and the plane.
It was somewhat shocking to watch the level of confusion in terms of what was going on, but when you see what information that they were dealing with, it makes sense.
The hijackers to me came across more as fanatical than evil, and they were not turban-wearing obvious characters, they were cleaned up and I ride on planes with people like them on every flight I take.
In the movie, they are carrying out the plans of others and are obsessive in their task. We are not fighting an enemy that is likely to be reasoned with.
There is one character that I'm glad they included- he has a European *maybe French* accent and he makes a number of comments along the lines of "If we do what they say, they'll spare our lives"-- typical appeasement mentality.
Thanks to this group of heroes, many thousands of lives may have been spared and we kept the Islamic nuts from claiming the Capitol or White House as a prize.
I give in 9.5/10!
I thought that the military looked pretty good, but wasn't given the authority it needed. At times the FAA looked good, at times, confused.
Overall, great movie but difficult to watch.
I work in midtown Manhattan, I watched the 2nd plane hit the tower with my own eyes. 9/11 really hit me hard. Partly because of that, I was against making this movie because I thought it was too soon. I was worried about exploting still open wounds in the name of making a buck.
After having seen it I have to say that the film was excellent. It portrayed the people as, well, regular people. It portrayed the terrorists as normal as well, until they attacked. It portrays them as the animals they were. Tears were flowing when the passengers finally fought back. I wished I could have helped them. They were true heroes.
It was frustrating, stirring and completely emotionally draining. When it ended I sat in stunned silence for a good 5 minutes, as did most of the other 30 people in the crowd. All throughout I kept thinking "These animals are the same as the terrorists down in Gitmo to whom the Democrats are so adamant about giving rights." It made me angry to think about that.
To sum it up, this was the best movie I have seen in years. It should win every award there is to win.
I saw it this afternoon . HEAVY DUTY MOVIE !!!!!! I was'nt sure how I would handle it myself. Well , after two post movie martinis , to unwind and relax , It was a great movie , well worth the time to see . Still having visions about it , and goose- bumps.
This is a really, really intense film. I am not sure I would bring a 13 year old.
Going to try to see it this weekend. First movie I've been too in 4 years.
I'm debating taking my older children
It's disgusting work, but someone has to do it.
Even more disgusting is the reaction of DUmmies.
For instance, here is a title of one of the threads running over there today:
"I'm already sick of all the glowing reviews of UNITED93"
Was at United 93 World Premier....Amazing!
There is one passenger (swedish accent?) who says that several times throughout the film. By the thrid time he says it you want to punch him in the mouth.
Unless I've missed it, the daily Kos website seems to have a complete blackout on any news or comments about this movie. To them, it doesn't exist. That seems to be their usual way of dealing with input they don't like.
There are only two or three curses in the whole movie. I would not not take your older children for that reason.
a few f-bombs here and there , all probally pretty accurate and appropriate in accordance to the events happening at the time . I would'nt worry too much about it , I think you and your son won'nt be thinking about a few swears , by the time you leave the movie house .
not available around here
movie theater said it was in limited release because it is "controversial", but if it gets a good opening they may get it next week.
I'll do it.
We'll be seeing it tomorrow.
There are a bunch of threads in the "September 11 Forum" (which is a sort of lunatic asylum within a lunatic asylum, for people who are loons even by DUmmie standards). I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of the really choice ones make the DUmmie FUnnies.
A few choice DUmmie droppings:
We've been told since Day One about the "heroic acts" of the passengers on Flight 93. But, we have seen several other purpoted "heroic" acts turn out to be lies fabricated by a NeoCon Junta desperate for heroes to distract Americans from the Junta's misdeeds....use the "United 93" crowds as a leafletting opportunity...
If any of the heroics actually happened, they were probably part of a scripted "simulation" of the type that corporations are fond of paying big bucks for.
Where did you see evidence of a jetliner crash? I've never seen it. All I've seen is a small, charred hole.. No aircraft parts, no body parts, no fire. Nothing. Same deal at the Pentagon.
The gore factor is minimal and the language is very tame, I heard the "F" word once.
