The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us this Saturday outside Bethesda Naval Hospital as we defend the honor of our sailors and Marines from the despicable Fred Phelps and his traveling freak show laughable called the Westboro Baptist Church.

The Montgomery County police will be there to make sure everyone's rights are protected. The Phelps crew will do their schtick from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. We'll be there early to set up and be prepared for their arrival.
When: 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006
Where: Bethesda Naval Hospital, Wisconsin Avenue and Jones Bridge Road.
Bring: American and service flags, and signs bearing messages of support for our sailors and Marines.
Travel, parking: The nearest Metro station is Bethesda-NIH on the Red Line. Street parking is available in side neighborhoods. The best parking areas are on Brandt Place, Glenbrook Parkway and Maryland, in that order. They are off of Jones Bridge Road about 500 feet from the corner we'll be at.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
Thanks for the heads up on your friend. It does help make Friday nights more pleasant knowing that the troops know what we do. We have made friends with several and were glad to see them either go home or go back to their company.

Zelig and I are still discussing a possible trip to DC this weekend, but it's not looking good at the moment. Is there a rally scheduled for Sunday also?

Hope there's a full after-report on this. We were no way near those people, and plenty of police in between. But we were joined by Rolling Thunder bikers -- without their bikes, and all the thumbs-up and honks were for us.
I bet the police out numbered the Phelps Klan.
I hope you kicked their nasty little @$$es, metaphorically speaking.

If Freepers are going to attend these events and rebuke the vile "Reverand" Phelps, there is a sign they all should carry.
