Fred Phelps Alert! D.C. Chapter to Defend Honor of Sailors and Marines at Beth. Naval Hosp. 4/29/06
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 | Kristinn

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us this Saturday outside Bethesda Naval Hospital as we defend the honor of our sailors and Marines from the despicable Fred Phelps and his traveling freak show laughable called the Westboro Baptist Church.

A report about the last time we encountered the Phelps Freak Show can be found here (graphic heavy).

The Montgomery County police will be there to make sure everyone's rights are protected. The Phelps crew will do their schtick from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. We'll be there early to set up and be prepared for their arrival.

When: 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006

Where: Bethesda Naval Hospital, Wisconsin Avenue and Jones Bridge Road.

Bring: American and service flags, and signs bearing messages of support for our sailors and Marines.

Travel, parking: The nearest Metro station is Bethesda-NIH on the Red Line. Street parking is available in side neighborhoods. The best parking areas are on Brandt Place, Glenbrook Parkway and Maryland, in that order. They are off of Jones Bridge Road about 500 feet from the corner we'll be at.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

Let's share this with other groups too and see if we can't make the crowd even bigger. Does anyone remember the number of those students who showed up at Walter Reed about the time the Phelps cowards were slinking away in their hatemobile?

Oh, thanks. It needs updating. I need to post more friend pictures there. We lost a member of the orchestra 2 weeks ago. Our beloved canine had cancer, and we had to say goodbye.

Now is the time for all good men and women
to come to the aid of our country
and show support for our service men and women.

You do not have to be in DC to show support for the Troops.

Visit your local military base today and at least once a week.

Or a military or veteran hospital.

If you can't do that then send an e-mail or package
to our troops for morale support.

Proud Patriots -
Sending care packages,
e-mails, and snail mail
to US Military worldwide.

We need coast to coast support for the troops, now, more than ever.

How I long for the days when I could legally challenge Mr Phelps to a duel.

BTTT!!

DC Chapter -- you guys rock. I need to share something with you all....

I had a phone call last week from a Vietnam vet who picked up my number off a letter I sent to WRAMC and was hand delivered by Coop. This vet called to thank me. I talked to him for about 45 minutes. He told me lots of stories. What he does, is, on his own dime, travels to WR for a couple of days a month to talk to the newly injured and help them see that the decisions they make now can determine how the rest of their life plays out. He was injured in Vietnam -- he has walked in their shoes. He asked how my letter happened to get there, and I gave him the short version. When I said "I have a friend who stands on the street corner out there with a bunch that's there every Friday night supporting the troops", he told me that one Friday night he was arriving at WR and saw you all there. (He also said it was hard to drive past the moonbats.) He apparently gained access to the parking, and then came back out and shook hands with you all and thanked you. He told me that the guys on the inside know you are there, and they appreciate you. He wanted me to tell you to keep it up. I just wanted to pass that on and I hope it boosts your spirits! God bless you all for what you are doing there!

I talked to him one Friday night - don't ask me when, the weeks all mush together after a year. I do remember I was wearing winter outerwear... in any event, we talked for a good long time and if I remember correctly, he said he lived in a New England state. He drives down on his own dime every few weeks to work with the guys and women at WRAMC. He has firsthand experience with life-changing injuries. He is a very nice man doing good things for those who have followed him in service to our country.

You are absolutely right!! We can't sit around like the "silent majority" did during Vietnam. We owe it to you and all those who served and are serving.

Thanks for your service.
