Frontpage Interviews guest today is Thomas Joscelyn, an expert on the international terrorist network. Much of his research has focused on the role that nations such as Saddam's Iraq and the mullah's Iran have played in providing support, training and funding for terrorist entities such as al Qaeda, al Qaeda's affiliates, Hamas, Hezbollah and other terrorist groups. He has written extensively about these connections for the Weekly Standard and in several other publications. Currently, he is organizing a research project to review and translate the millions of documents captured from the fallen Iraqi regime and the Taliban.
Joscelyn: For the past several years, American forces have been collecting documents and other pieces of media from the fallen regimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of the Iraqi documents were authored by Saddams intelligence apparatus, the Mukhabarat (Iraqi Intelligence Service), while many of the documents captured in Afghanistan were authored by al Qaeda operatives or the Taliban. To date, less than 5% of the documents have been reviewed. So, out of a total of 2 million documents, only about 100,000 documents (give or take) have been reviewed.
One IIS document, in particular, has received significant attention. The document was apparently authored in early 1997 and summarizes a number of contacts between Iraqi Intelligence and Saudi oppositionist groups, including al Qaeda, during the mid 1990s. The document says that in early 1995 bin Laden requested Iraqi assistance in two ways. First, bin Laden wanted Iraqi television to carry al Qaedas anti-Saudi propaganda. Saddam agreed. Second, bin Laden requested Iraqi assistance in performing joint operations against the foreign forces in the land of Hijaz. That is, bin Laden wanted Iraqs assistance in attacking U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia.

Security situation[1]
Tension between Egypt and Sudan increased in mid-1995 after Egypts President, Hosni Mubarak, accused Sudans military junta of complicity in the attempt on his life in Ethiopia. Following the accusation, clashes between Sudanese and Egyptian troops took place in the disputed Red Sea border region of Halaib.
In late 1999, it was estimated that Egypt had nearly one million men under arms, roughly evenly split between the armed forces and the internal security establishment. The government has been locked in a low-intensity, counter-insurgency campaign against extremist Islamic fundamentalists of the Gamaa Islamia, or Islamic Association, which seeks to topple the secular administration and establish an Islamic state.
Over the past two years the internal security situation has been improving. Fatalities due to terrorist violence in 1998 totalled 47. No attacks on tourists were recorded and no foreigners were killed. This is the lowest number of fatalities since monitoring began in 1992.
Extremist Islamists including Gamaat Islamiya and Al-Jihad have been responsible for the intensification of violence since 1992, aimed at the overthrow of the regime. A new and more targeted security policy in the aftermath of the 1997 Luxor massacre has resulted in a notable termination of violent incidents. Gamaat Islamiya announced a ceasefire in 1999, and Al-Jihad followed suit in 2000. Both now appear to have chosen to emulate the Muslim Brotherhood by supporting the formation of the Islamist Reform party and Sharia Party respectively.[2]

==spring > [X] There is widespread agitation in Egypt for the complete adoption of Islamic law. About this time, Al Jihad, Al Gamaat (also known as Gamaa Islamiya), and other extreme Islamist groups are beginning to revive.
The democrap party doesn't want any restriction on the Southern border either ... they are already counting the fraudulent ballots they will garner for 2006 and 2008. We The People are the true sovereigns of this nation but OUR elected representatives (our employees, if you will) are not doing our bidding; the pubbies want the money from industry employing illegals andc the democraps want the fraudulent votes, so we the people are being encouraged to shut up and take it, AGAIN.
Thanks for the ping, interesting article.
Thanks for the ping and the related links!!
R. Lee Emery for Press Secretary!!!!!!
That is VERY obvious- GWB is erroneously trading Republican votes from the base, from recently acquired Blacks, and from many responsible Latinos for a very few votes from illegal immigrants. They are ALL gonna vote Dem, if they vote at all, which they probably won't. So it's an idiotic position for a republican president, even if he ain't running.
Yes to your reply, and yes to your tagline. The GOP has ben hijacked.
First, I thank God Bush was chosen over Goreghoul or Kerryfairy. That said, I tend to think Bush is cuzzying up to Fox (who rules a modern feudal state) because a revolution in Mexico that installs a Chavez type leadership would be very bad for the U.S. Link that to the lobbying pressure from business to keep the supply of cheap (below American average wages) labor flowing and I don't think there is any mystery why things on illegals are in a stalemate ... it is a given that the democrap party is salivating over illegals, as a new race problem ---and the democraps have a long history of exploiting racial tension they do so much to create-- and the new source of dumbed down voters for democrats and a broad field from which to defraud votes.
The GOP has "gone astray", as far as representing "people". They now represent big corporations, and not conservative citizens. (Does that sound democrat?) I do remember the failed attempts of George Wallace and Ross Perot with their American Party/American Patriot Party/ whatever. Third parties don't fare well in this country. But, mark my words, Republicans aren't going to fare very well in Nov 06, and Nov 08, depending on the war situation, which is the great wild card.
If the democraps regain control of either branch of Congress, we can watch millions being spent on impeachment and repeal of the tax cuts accompanied by social program expansion designed to guarantee that less than fifty percent of the people pay the taxes while more than fifty percent get a dole of one kind or another. And we can forget about constuctionists on the subpreme court and throughout the federal court system. And you want to talk about illegals and porous borders along with impotence in dealing with worldwide terrorism and Islamism?
I also thank God that GWB was President on 9/11/2001 and still is for the War on Terror. Can anyone imagine a Jimmah Cahtah, or AlGore, or BJClinton or Hildebeast instead? Might as well have Michael Moore in charge. But I believe that GWB is "confused" about our border problems. But please remember, a big part of "homeland security" is border integrity, currently nonexistant.
If I were trying to get personnel and materials for terrorism into the U.S. I sure wouldn't try it at a border which is so volatile, I'd concentrate movement on the Canadian porous placid border.
Thank you.
I really am concerned about all the OTM's that are known to be crossing our southern border- from terrorist nations- I think that that should concern you as well. Maybe I don't really understand what you are disagreeing with me about?????
