Stunning facts about the proposed immigration bill

SENATOR SESSIONS ON SECURING AMERICA'S BORDERS ACT

Mr. President, I thank Senator Leahy, ranking member on the Judiciary Committee.

I have received just this afternoon in my office some disturbing news in the form of correspondence from the Congressional Budget Office. It suggests a number of areas where the amendment we are talking about here today, No. 3424, the immigration so-called compromise, violates our budget and the rules of the Senate.

Let me read from the correspondence we have received. This is something, as you know, Mr. President, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, that we never discussed at all. It is not a matter we spent any time at all discussing as we moved forward with legislation which ultimately cleared that committee and came to the floor — legislation which I thought was not good legislation and which I opposed, and so did the Senator from Texas, who just relinquished the Chair. We didn't discuss the financial impact of the legislation before us.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

I do have a lot of nerve, as anybody who knows me will attest.

> A recent immigrant from another nation to New Zealand telling us how to behave.

I am not a *recent* immigrant to New Zealand. Check out my homepage. Twelve years is a fair while to do the Immigrant thing.

And I *just might* have seen and experienced more of your fifty states than you have, mate.

Probably, I'd guess.

That's a classic! Here's another.

1860: "But if we can't have our African slaves, who will pick the cotton?"

2006: "But if we can't have our illegal aliens, who will pick the lettuce?"

It was wrong then, and it's wrong now!

I would have to look it up but you made comment about how grateful you were FReepers had open discourse without insulting one another.

I must say that IS funny! I wish insults were not everyday but I've seen one call another a "dumbass" and be zotted and another call one an "SOB" and not. So, unfortunately open discourse without condemnation is not the norm, you've been here long enough to see I would think. I just found it amusing you would make that statement. Anyway, we are here to share ideas about legal vs. illegal immigration, I think yours are very good so we shall get over the other part.

Ohhhh :)

True, that I probably cover just a fraction of what goes on here. I have also noticed some people seem to enjoy having rather heavy arguments, sort of a context and predictably start losing their temper. I don't enjoy that so I don't hang around, but on normal situations... I have not seen anything terrible. Ok see you.

I doubt that...

Mate, I mean it. And I am a FRiend of America. The way you see yourselves and the way you are perceived overseas are quite different.

You are operating inside a closed System, so you do not get an external view -- except by way of people like me.

Please don't attack me for giving you that view: it is always meant kindly. America has a very soft spot in my heart.

And yes, you would need to have had a job in the 1980's that placed you in a pick-up truck, in the middle of America, with the orders to "drive" for the next six weeks (as I did) over and over again to see more of your states than I did.

Fix New Zealand? Working on that: check out my home page.

DieHard: I know I don't need to defend you, you are quite capable but DIDN'T I TELL YOU WE WERE SENSITIVE ABOUT BEING CALLED BIGOTS?? :) Sorry, just had to tease you a little.

(Big Grin!)

heh-heh yuh, thanks for that! I mean no offense: I see America and how she is perceived from the outside, and I comment.

I am a FRiend of America, for the record. And when America acts silly or says stupid things from time to time, I might comment. But I've been trying to shut my commentary down on this thread because it is taking it down a path that the thread owner does not want.

I agree that you have a HUGE problem in America with illegal homeland invasion.

America also has an issue with the Monroe Doctrine, by which you would one day assimilate both Canada and Mexico. (at least, that is how Monroe Doctrine is taught in Canada anyrate).

Implement the Monroe Doctrine and, in my view, America is screwed.

Personally, I enjoy hearing from outside the US and how we are perceived. I enjoy a good discussion. So...coming from outside the US (New Zealand), how do you suggest we go about convincing our Senators to do what the American people want? Didn't we put them in there to represent us?

I meant illegal immigration. Sorry not to make that distinction. Those who legally go through the hoops are typically great citizens. I have Korean neighbors who are legal citizens. I wish we have millions more like them in our country. They truly love this country and really try to follow the rules.

The illegals from the south? Don't get me started.

New Zealand has about the most brainless system of governance that could ever be put in place, anywhere. It is called "MMP" (Mixed Member Proportional) and it is based upon the German model. Each voter gets two votes: one for the candidate, the other for the party...

So, my initial answer to your question: do not follow our example. It is a Brothel. You never know what government you are going to get until the politicians are finished carving up their deals. They will sell their souls to Satan if only to get into power this one more time...

(Don't believe me? Ask the NZ Green Party. They prostituted themselves to Labor last election, and were left like a whore in a dark alley, barely clothed and fee in hand but outside the limousine, forced to walk home barefoot whilst the winners drove in comfort to their seats of power.)

So first thing: don't do as we do.

Second thing: be noisy, camp on your Senator's doorstep, and make the cost of non-compliance very very heavy.

Treasure, cherish and protect your US-style Democracy. She is a very rare thing, highly prized.

*DieHard*

Not just Freepers with passion. My parents and a close friend of mine are Dems and they think just like us on this issue :)

Here's another protest planned for Philly:

Immigration Protests Set For Philly On Monday

PHILADELPHIA -- Days after a Senate agreement on immigration reform unraveled, immigrant rights groups plan to rally Monday in Philadelphia, Los Angeles and other cities.

More than 200 people from the Lehigh Valley are set to demonstrate at Philadelphia's Love Park as part of the "National Action Day on Immigrant Rights.''

Other protesters are expected from South Jersey.

Erika Sutherland, a professor at Muhlenberg College who founded a support group for professional Hispanics, says the country needs to bring sanity to the immigration process.

The landmark Senate bill, which would have given millions of illegal immigrants a chance at citizenship, dissolved Friday amid internal disputes in both parties.

I'm trying to get hold of my friend to see if he is working in CC tomorrow but I guess he's asleep. I wanted to warn him. I'm glad no one I know has to be in town tomorrow.

Powerline is looking for citizen journalists, maybe fatima can help.

http://powerlineblog.com/archives/013711.php

We're encouraging our readers, and anyone else who is able, to attend the demonstration in your city and record what you see. Send your videos to us, and we'll put up a cross-section of interesting footage--assuming, of course, that we get some. It will be interesting to compare the first-hand observations of citizens with cameras to news accounts.

How do you get video footage to us? In small files, suitable for posting on the web (i.e., Power Line Video). There are several ways to do this. First, if you use the video function of a digital camera, you will get files of the right size. Second, if you use iMovie, you can reduct your footage to email size in a click; I assume there is similar software for Windows. Third, you can send your footage to YouSendIt.com, and they'll reduce the file size and send it to us.

Where do you send video footage? Click on the "Send Us Video" link at the top of this page. The email address is powerlinenews@gmail.com.

This is an experiment. It should be interesting at a minimum, and a tune-up for many future occasions when on-the-spot citizens may provide information that is truly newsworthy.
