Princeton University sociologist Douglas S. Massey reports that 62 percent of illegal immigrants pay income taxes (via withholding) and 66 percent contribute to Social Security. Forbes magazine notes that Mexican illegals aren't clogging up the social-services system: only 5 percent receive food stamps or unemployment assistance; 10 percent send kids to public schools.
Economist Larry Kudlow praises Hispanic entrepreneurship: "According to 2002 Census Bureau data, Hispanics are opening businesses at a rate three times faster than the national average. In addition, there were almost 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses generating $222 billion in revenue in 2002."
Total crime and property crime in California are half what they were in 1980; violent crime has fallen more than a third. The state's Hispanic population during that time has increased 120 percent.

err...he lost the Texas hispanic vote...every county along the southern border he lost...take a look again at the red/blue map
No. It is a recognition of the fact that Hispanic citizens vote. And they will not vote for a party that they perceive, rightly or wrongly, as anti-Hispanic. It's human nature.
The reason Texas is Republican is because the whites in Texas are very conservative. The whites in California are split nearly 50/50.
Only 10% of illegals send their kids to public schools? That DOES surprise me. I guess the public schools sucking in California cannot be blamed entirely on illegals. Darn!
He seems to be lumping illegal immigrants and Hispanics together into the same statistics.
No thinking person is opposed to Hispanics in general, only lawbreakers in particular whatever their nationality might be.
Bush did not actully win 44% of the Texas hispanic vote in 2004.
The thing that amazes me is the rhetoric demanding the criminalization of all people that may inadvertently run afoul of the tax code. Currently the civil code issues have many FReepers gathered with pitchforks and torches. I do not want for the republic to learn the law of unintended consequences. Just like DHS, the measures that are being demanded are absurd. Get caught without your papers in order, earn a one way ticket to a federal detention facility. No thanks.
You're still not getting it. Simply repeating that the GOP lost California does not prove that it happened for the reasons that YOU say it happend for.
I showed you the data that Prop 187 had no effect on Hispanics' support for the GOP in California. You didn't dispute it. So you just rant and rant and rant instead. I'm done, unless you have an actual point to make.
Anybody who sees something nefarious in the CFR has a high likelihood of being in the JBS, or at least has adopted their vocabulary and conspiratorial attitudes.
Really! The laws are on the books and stipulate the penalty for violating a speeding law. It is NOT deportation. The law is also on the books and stipulates the penalty for illegal deportation. It IS deportation.
Perhaps you'd like to push to get the penalty changed for a speeding violation.
Illegal is illegal. Laws are worthless if they're not enforced. Everything else I hear on this subject is rationalizations and leftist propaganda.
"The anti-illegal immigration crowd keeps harping on walls and expulsion. However, these simply won't work without a rational system of legal immigration."
How do you know it simply won't work if you don't ever try it?
Eisenhower was very successful with operation wetback.
Well, I'm from Texas. We have the same problems that other border states do. And we have a large and growing Hispanic population. But we are now as solidly GOP as California is Rat-infested. That's because Hispanics here vote GOP in increasing numbers. It's happening here and in many other states, but not in California. So why isn't it happening in California?
Their countries are all left wing. Socially conservative? maybe. Economically? nope.
We've got motor voter where in Washington State every person applying for a license or renewing is asked if they would like to vote. DMV employees are specifically prohibited from asking for legal status.
We've lost our right to control our own borders. Those such as W and Tony seek to negotiate the terms of 'official' surrender.
There was no need to be rude in your reply to me, I was in no way rude in my posts. I was not making statements out of deception or ignorance. Surely you understand there is a difference in the way things could be done and the way they generally are done. I was speaking of the way they generally are done- at least in my neck of the woods, which is all I have ever claimed knowledge of.
I am aware of ITINs and I am also aware that they are mostly used by people with green cards, and others here legally under other circumstances. I got that info from a friend who is a CPA. She told me she has yet to file a return for an absolute illegal using the ITIN. A relatively new group using them are illegals who have figured out they can use them in order to receive loans for houses and vehicles. Their use is still not widespread by illegals, but may become so now that banks are actively seeking the business of illegals. That remains to be seen. Most illegals are still paid in cash under the table, or end up on a payroll using false documents. I know this for a fact, by knowing how many illegals in my area are paid. The most favored way of paying illegals in my area is to simply hand them cash- the second most favored way for those who need many workers is to have a labor contractor in the middle between the business owner and the illegal. That way if they are caught- the business owner did not hire them so he is in the clear. The business owner then gets a new labor contractor if the old one is busted. There may be a few illegals who actually file tax returns using the ITIN and pay taxes in a meaningful way, but I do not believe they are the majority by a long shot.
latinos, latinos, latinos, latinos.
Mexicans, Mexicans, Mexicans..... LOL
Labels, labels, labels
Does anybody really know the difference between a "Hispanic" and a "Latino," (trick question.. it' ain't as easy as it seems)
Is an Argentinian hispanic? Latino? both?
How about if he is from German ancestry?... What if he is mixed with Indian?
How about a Peruvian? What if he is a professional, rich and belongs to the Conservative party (we have both yo know - Liberals and conservatives) and it goes on and on and on.
The problems we are dealing with is with ** MEXICANS ** nothing could have made it more clear than the FLAGS you saw.. sure, you have others nationalities, but it's mainly Mexican. Let's use the right labels.
They aren't yours to own, use, or dispose of. This is the USA, not the USSR.
