Tensions over immigration reform heightened in the Phoenix area's East Valley Thursday when students raised a Mexican flag over Apache Junction High School and then other students yanked it down and burned it. "I know (they) shouldn't have burned the Mexican flag," said Jacob Stewart, a 16-year-old sophomore. "I heard it was raised above the American flag and that just irked me."
He said the turbulence was tied to debates going on in the state Legislature and Congress, where ideas ranging from offering illegal immigrants a chance at citizenship to making them felons are being floated.
Freshman Chelsea Garcia, 15, and junior Brittany Ramage, 16, said the unrest had more to do with long-running racial tensions at the school.
The week's events might have sparked some anger, Ramage said, "but kids aren't too deep about that stuff."
The Hispanic student who brought the Mexican flag said he was responding to a remark directed at him Wednesday. The flag-raising, flag-burning, and shoving match that followed happened before most students arrived at school.
Six students three Hispanic and three white will be disciplined, Principal Chad Wilson said.
Officials with the Apache Junction Unified School District would not specify what punishment the six face.
Wilson did say in a letter sent home to parents that there would be "increased supervision, including additional police officers, on the campus over the next couple of days."
School flagpoles have been lightning rods across the country this week, including an incident in which a Houston high-school principal was disciplined after he flew a Mexican flag underneath his campus' U.S. and state flags.
A new political awareness among students has also been grabbing attention, as thousands have walked out on classes to join rallies in Phoenix and elsewhere. More than 100 students from Mesa's Carson Junior High and Westwood High schools marched in protest on Mesa streets Tuesday.
Socialists, be they fake priests or real priests or Jesuits, have abused the funds and organization of the Catholic Church, throughout the Americas, for the purpose of raising up an lower-class "army" of leftists throughout North America.
The Democrat Party has been intimately involved for financial and political gains, in this unlawful business, for the purpose of taking credit - that is, making known to all the travelers on the "railroad," that their benefactor is the Democrat Party ("Remember that when you vote").
What the liberal media do not mention much, is that these travelers receive their marching papers, literally, from their local Catholic church or some missionary (or some "missionary"), which details the route and contacts, all the way to their "working destination" here in the States.
In the mid-West, a "popular" stop was a "fly-by-night" employment agency in Indianapolis, IN, which went by the *sounds like name* of an actual employment agency, among others ... the names and locations of the agency, constantly moving. In fact, the agency was a fellow with a cell phone, constantly changing and on the move.
That particular fellow, was a specialist in hiring illegal aliens, from below the border, who did not speak English, for the purpose of doing "the work that Americans will not do."
It is the clearing out and cleaning of structures and vehicles and boats and ships ... of asbestos and other deadly materials and chemicals.
The illegal aliens have no clue what they have been getting into. Someday, we will be reading about it - their failing health.
The Democrats will try to blame that on Republicans. When in fact, the "manpower" organizations of the Democrat Party, "had a lock on" the hiring for some time --- because, for the unions in the construction business and in the marine business who need jobs, to get jobs at "high pay" - to have investment in these projects - these unions and investors required a "complimentary" slave labor force to do the dirty work ... "that Americans won't do."
Though I will make exceptions: burning totalitarian countries' flags should have no penalties because they don't stand for anything anyways. Burn as many Nazi, North Korean, or Cuban flags as you want. Mexico isn't a totalitarian country yet, so their flag should be given at least a little (and I mean *little*) bit of respect.
Now we're actually encouraging this strife to continue by giving people incentives to break the law.
I hate to see young kids messed up, or caught in emotions. I hope things can calm down, but I have a feeling it won't. The American people are tolerant up to a point, then all of nonsense and foolishness will have to stop.
Yes, I saw the report on the radio towers.
It was hard to tell exactly what happened and why.
Could have been someone trying to make our side look bad ...
What we would do without Michelle?
She is on vacation for a few days
IMMIGRATION ROUND-UP: HUBRIS EDITION

Summit's over. Apparently, illegals are just "guests" we forgot to invite.
This isn't the first time the president's played fast and loose with labels in the context of immigration, either. Michelle nailed him on it a year ago.

Even she needs to take a breath once in awhile, LOL!
Not to worry...I'm sure there will be plenty of fireworks around by the time she gets back. :o)
It's not ok to harm children; it's not ok to take down the US flag; it's not ok to pervert justice; it's not ok to force a square into a circle; and it's not ok when you stand to reason that you post here and suggest that I post elsewhere because you can't come up with a good thing to say about homosexuality when asked and when you're defending it.
Do you buy your strawmen by the pallet or what? I do NOT think it's okay to harm children or take down the US flag or pervert justice. And when did I defend homosexuals? You mean when I say that they shouldn't be put in jail? HAHAHAHAHAHA!! It is to laugh.
The rest of your post was pure gibberish and made no points at all.
Looks like meat's back on the menu, kitties!
Yes, Michelle is on vacation. She's floating on an air mattress in my backyard pool, sipping a Pina Colada and giving me that look that says "Get off the Internet and come join me."
As for the arson charge, I can sort of see how that makes sense. A normal Commie protester goes out and buys an American flag so he can take it to the die-in and burn it. But if instead he grabbed a flag out of the hands of a decorated WWII veter and burned that, I can see where the veteran would have a complaint, since his property had been stolen and destroyed. So I think the bad news is that he might have to go to court to face the charge of (at least) theft or maybe strongarm robbery. But I think the good news is that no jury in the world would ever convict him.
it really doesn't matter, from what I hear all that landscaping is going to go right in the ocean, with all the plate techtonic stuff in CA, besides , their signs don't show much of a Catholic education, didn't anyone tell them that the sign of Arnold is a sin, sounds weird, but it is a SIN to disgrace him like that, doesn't look like the kind of Catholics I know , here in America, maybe they are different in Mexico, now, that statement is kind of a sin on my part, sorry.
You said it so great!!!! Bravo for you, you spoke for me too!
Know where to get a decent flag holder without a flag? Probably a flag store, if I can find one close. I have two flags (three if you count the one in the flag case) in my closet. Need a flag holder and pole, but can never find them without the flag.
call your local American Legion or VFW. they may have some at a resonable price or know where you can get one, or else , hm, take a big can of sand, cover it with something, put the flag on somekind of pole, and stick it in the can
At this point, I would *not* suggest Walmart, although I see them there. I was in my local one the other day, and prominently on the flags I saw there (btw, which were almost *stuffed" and almost hidden from view in a out of the way corner in the Office Supply section)....anyway "Made in China" was on each flag, and accessory.
(after getting a disturbing email from a friend of mine in New Zealand, saying that China is financing the Marxist movement in Latin America...I was ticked.....)
"All the King's Flags" I believe is on 24th St. in Phoenix. Another recommendation I might suggest, is some of the "scrap booking" places in the East Valley...sometimes they carry different flags (like for Easter, ect...) and the poles and holders might be sold seperately.
Also, I've seen them in some mail-order cataloges have them. Perhaps "Michaels" or even "Joanne" might carry them. I'd call. They carry seasonal stuff, like flags for different holidays, ect...they should/might have the holders too
A letter to the editor published in Saturday's AZ Republic:
"We teachers must be very careful how we discuss current events in our classroom, as well that should be.
"But how on Earth do I explain to my eighth-grade civics students that Hispanics fleeing Cuba are welcomed by our government, but being Hispanic and fleeing from Mexico might soon be a felony?"
- Zoe Seymour, Peoria
The writer is a teacher in the Peoria Unified School District.
What you can say when a CIVICS TEACHER can't tell the difference between fleeing a repressive, Communist country with "fleeing" Mexico?
Almost.

Darn. Link doesn't work for me. Try again? Thanks.
From The Urban Dictionary:
1. pwned 1971 up, 422 down
A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned."
Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned."
It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.
"Man, I rock at my job, but I still got a bad evaluation. I was pwned."
OR
"That team totally pwned us."
Yuma students take protest to City Hall
BY JEFFREY GAUTREAUX AND MICHELLE VOLKMANN, SUN STAFF WRITERS
Mar 31, 2006
For Kofa High School freshman Adrian Armando Collins, the proposed federal immigration legislation hits home. Literally.
His mother, who works in the agricultural fields, came to Yuma illegally 15 years ago. She isn't a criminal and shouldn't be treated like one by the U.S. government, Collins said.
"She came here to try to make a better life for her, for us," he said. "It's not just about Mexico. It's about all immigrants."
Starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday, an estimated 200 students, mostly from Kofa High School, marched throughout Yuma for hours waving U.S. and Mexican flags. They were protesting immigration legislation, including a bill passed by the U.S. House of Representations that would make it a felony to be an illegal immigrant or to offer aid to them.
"Our families came here and we want to support that," Kofa student Ramon Haro said. "Just because I talk to my family, does that make me a felon?"
As the students marched, they were greeted with honking horns from some drivers. One person, a white man, yelled "Go home" at the students while another driver, a Hispanic, told the group "to keep going."
