Slain Minister's Wife to Be Charged With Murder Friday, March 24, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. The wife of a Tennessee pastor found shot dead in his house Wednesday will face first-degree murder charges, authorities announced Friday.
Mary Winklerwas found Thursday night with the couple's three daughters in Orange Beach, Ala., about 400 miles south of their home in Selmer.
Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said she was interviewed during the night and the charges were being prepared.
"We've interviewed her and she was cooperative," said Jennifer Johnson of the TBI, adding that once a warrant with the charges was drawn up, extradition proceedings would begin to have her returned to Tennessee.
Matthew Winkler was found shot to death in the bedroom of his parsonage Wednesday by church members who began searching for him after he failed to show up at an evening event at Selmer's Church of Christ.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but Winkler's wife and children Breanna, 1; Mary Alice, 6; and Patricia, 8 were gone.

The Missionary Baptists believe once saved always saved, but I don't think they believe in forced baptism. FreeWill Baptists believe you can fall from grace.
And wonderful music it is, too!
The Bible says only members of Christ's church can be saved. It has nothing to do with the name on the building. We are a group of christians who meet together. We put the words church of Christ on the building where we meet so that we have a way to let people know where we meet. I know there are people everywhere who have been baptized and are saved. They may or may not put the name church of Christ on the building where they meet. The may or may not even have a building!
"He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. He that believes not shall be condemned." Mark 15: 15-16.
And yes, Mary Winkler can still be saved. Jeffrey Dahmer was baptized in prison. If he truly repented of his sins, he will be in heaven too.
Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. James 5:19-20
REPOSTED DUE TO AVOIDANCE BY C of C'ers TO ANSWER
jk and other C of C'ers,
jk who wrote: "The only way Mary can be forgiven her sins is to confess them to God and have a truly repentant heart."
...your religion says that ONLY C of C'ers can go to heaven, and all who are not will go to hell
...so let me get this straight, someone who is a C of C'er will be forgiven for their sins and go to "heaven" if they are "truly repentant", even if they say kidnapped, raped and killed ten young girls?, and if the ten young girls are not C of C'ers, then they will go to hell?.....is this correct??
...and you still think you are not in a cult??
Musical instruments are not used in CoC worship because the Bible does not say to use them.
orange daisy,
you wrote: "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. He that believes not shall be condemned."
...what a load of crap, and con artist sales pitch that is...sorta like: "either be one of us, or you go to hell"...gimme a break...all churches sell the SAME thing - the afterlife, yet none of you can prove it
...but what is really dispicable is how your church preaches that the serial killers go to heaven if he is one of you, and repents, YET his innocent victims "go to hell" simply because they were not a member of your cult, even tho they may have lived an honest life?!...try asking some tough questions of your messed up church, instead of being brainwashed
I don't think our church has ever said anyone is "going to hell" -that's for God to judge, not us.
"so let me get this straight, someone who is a C of C'er will be forgiven for their sins if they are "truly repentant", even if they say kidnapped, raped and killed ten young girls?, and if the ten young girls are not C of C'ers, then they will go to hell?.....is this correct?? "
Why are you singling out the Church of Christ? The above is the true belief of most Christians.
Why do you care where Christians think your soul is headed if what they say isn't true? Does it matter? Does it change anything? No.
They're not threatening you. Let them believe what they wish.
And Free Republic has been categorized a cult by a reputable political organization.
There is a group called the International Church of Christ, (formerly the Crossroads & Boston Church of Christ) that have been shown to be cult-like because people come in with different personality-types, but they all converge to the same personality type. Google ["International Church of Christ" cult] if you are interested. That is not the church of Christ that the Winklers are associated with. I wish you could cite the name of your reputable Christian organization so I could read for myself what they said.
They do not allow instruments to be played because of some Psalme that says "raise your VOICES".
We do not use instrumental music because there is no New Testament example of it. We are instructed to sing and make melody in your hearts (Eph 5:19), and admonish one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs (Col 3:16). Instrumental music was not added to a worship service until hundreds of years after Christ died. Christ's church in its pure form did not use instruments to worship. Why do we need to improve upon it?
You made some very good points.
You seem quite intolerant of others' beliefs.
Just like that stupid news bimbo. Hear glowing remarks all over the place about Matthew and one newshound wanting to feel important says something totally different and the info-idiot believes the troublemaker.
Greta says she will have "new details" on Mary Winkler.
Or practicing for her trial.
you wrote: all churches sell the SAME thing - the afterlife, yet none of you can prove it
I should have realized before now. So are you atheist or agnostic? We might as well all stop now if you don't believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. It's like trying to prove a thereom in Geometry without believing the definitions of point, line and plane! Someone wiser than I will have to debate you on the existence of God.
I have a friend who was raised in the Free Will Baptist church, but later was baptized in the church of Christ. She says except for the instrumental music, she does not recall a difference in their teachings. Of course she was a child and and very young adult during her FWB years, and young people aren't always interested in the details.
The image that "forced baptism" brings to mind. I promise I've never seen anybody dragged down the aisle and forcibly dunked. LOL!
I don't really know. The paper said she had been taking Prozac. Its possible that this happened.
LOL Bad choice of words! LOL
