We have smoke here from the fires burning out west but not a drop of rain and I haven't heard thunder in hours. I wouldn't mind some rain but I will pass if it means severe weather.

It is still 70 degrees here so the dry line hasn't made it into central OK yet to drop the temperatures. Looks like more storms are developing in eastern OK as the dry line approaches.

The gas leaks make me fear the worst kind of damage.

I copy that, when I lived in Ne in the 70's a storm went through (they said it was not a tornado) but it did just what you said, one metal storage shed outside was twisted like a man would twist a beer can. Good thing it wasn't a tornado.

Where is Kentland, Fair Oaks, etc in relation to Lafayette?

The Wabash River runs near Lafayette and dumps into the Ohio/Kentucky. In southern Illinois & Indiana, it provides a convenient "marking" point for the state border(s).

It is early yet...

Steeleville IL (15 miles from me) got hit hard last night. Over 100 businesses and homes damaged. There were no reports coming out until the 10pm news tonight.

The one that hit St. Mary's MO (another 15 minutes from me) last night also was a F3 and was on the ground for 6 minutes. 2 dead and more in the hospital in critical condition. It took nearly 24 hours for these more detailed reports to get out.

I hated that drive, was glad I only had to do it the first year we were there, after which I found a job in Lawton. The springtime was definitely the worst.

Not me. At least with a tornado, you can theoretically get in your car and drive in a perpendicular direction and get out of the way. Cars get swallowed up in earthquakes; buildings topple and crush people - not my idea of a good time.

We only have 10% humidity here in Norman tonight so chances of a major cell developing here with the dry line moving across is not very high.

My co-workers in fact had been through a really bad one there (Wichita Falls) a couple of years before I worked there (would have happened sometime around 1983???) I think several were killed in that one.

Yeah, I'm not as worried down here in Dallas, but it is interesting how fast they fire up. In the last 10 minutes I've watched the southern edge of the storm line jump from west of Denton to Weatherford (about 50 miles along the line from northeast to southwest.) Looks like that could soon extend down to Stephenville or even Goldwaithe.

But if someone was planning to go to bed with the windows open, they may get a wet surprise. And run of the mill here in Spring can bring some nasty straight-line winds. They were getting 55mph in the Panhandle earlier today.
