I'm well aware that DPW will not be "owning U.S. ports", that they will be operating terminals at several ports.
I also don't think Dubai is going to spend 6.8 Billion to commit terrorist acts...if they were so inclined to spend that much money on terrorism, obviously that money coule be better spent other ways...
I tried to go on their website and it is down. I wouldn't be surprised if they were receiving threats from the Unions and such.

I was so thrilled (sarcasm) today when I was stopped behind a van at a traffic light. The van sported all kinds of RAT bumper stickers. The newest one said, "Hillary for President 2008". Scary.

Thanks. This is the same article on Yahoo. I seem to be the only one reading it differently, that is, DPW is NOT giving up, only establishing a US-based front company to act as a buffer in running the ports. They will still own the operations.

There's a difference. UAE is an ally, and has been for some time, and it is in ours and their strategic best interest to remain so, come what may (Iran, radicals in Saudi, AQ, etc)....
China, OTOH, is a potential adversary in future conflicts. Our buying of cheap consumer goods and depending on that may merely fuel their internal military buildup, but China considers ports owned by its holdings, as well as its cargo ships, as MILITARY assets. What it owns, it can shut down..
They don't only own stuff on the left coast. They have administrative control of the Panama Canal, control the ports of Houston and Victoria, TX; a lot of the port of New Orleans, and the ports in Mobile and Pensacola (there are others but I can't specifically name them off the cuff)..
If they close access to the Mississippi and Tombigbee rivers, that's almost 1/2 of our logistical capacity choked up.
Britain harassed shipping as far as portside leading up to the War of 1812.. this is far worse..

My husband's been to the UAE via his ship pulling into their port. If anyone is our friend over there, it is the UAE. He said they love Americans, they're filthy rich, and they were extremely courteous, kind and helpful to any and all Americans that he has seen. They are *so* important to our military that it isn't funny at all what is happening. I think many of us have jumped the gun here, though partly because we were only hearing about the port deal during the final hour.
Which leads me to another thought...has anyone wondered if this whole "presentation" in the first place isn't something that was masterminded by Rove? When I was listening to Rush last week discussing the Clintons and Bill's accepting money from the UAE (what appears to be) illegally...and Hillary's camp battling Bill's camp about who knew what and when about money changing hands...I was thinking about Rove and how brilliant that would be to not have to point out the Clinton deal, but to just sit back and let it come out in the wash. Has anyone mentioned anything similar? Is this crazy?
