I suppose on this thread it goes without saying, but I'll say in anyway...BOYCOTT THE OSCARS tonight.
I want the ratings for this year's program go into the toilet (where most the nominated movies belong). I won't waste my money to see the films, my electricity to watch the Oscars, or my time watching to witness Hollywood's self-adulation fest.
Pass it on...
One of my favorites!!
Famous lady detective, "I smell gas."
Her elderly nurse "I can't help it, I'm old!"
But Hollywood had very little to do with the production or the directing. It was associated with a British production company known as Saul Zaentz Company as well as Tolkien Enterprises. (located in Cambridge England)
Philip Seymour Hoffman just said, on the aftershow, that he really wanted to thank his girlfriend. Said it a couple of times, actually. I thought Hoffman was gay. He's played gay characters in both movies I ever saw him in...didn't seem to be a stretch, either.
I didn't watch... my daughter just gave me a full account --- she mentioned the same thing!
She also said Sandra Bullock and some of the others in full view when CRASH was announced, looked really happy and almost relieved that their industry dodged the bullet by rejecting Brokeback.
After Crash, I liked Cinderella Man, and Walk the Line for 2005. Red Eye was a pretty good action flick. Hostel was pretty good for a scary/gore flick. Star Wars was a let down, even though it filled in some of the blanks. Munich bored me to tears and ended badly. Jarhead was horrible, even though I like Jake G (haven't seen brokeback mtn) Flightplan with Jodie was better than I expected. History of Violence was pretty good. 40 year virgin sucked. I really liked Lord of War with Nicholas Cage. Four Brothers was pretty good. Other suck movies of 2005 that I saw : Fantastic Four, Sky High, Stealth, War of the Worlds, The Island, Mr/Mrs Smith, Dukes, LOngest Yard, House of Wax, Kingdom of heaven . Danny the dog, was a dog of a movie. Batman Begins was pretty good for the 1st 2/3rds of the Movie. Herbie was decent.
For 2004, I liked Cellular and Collateral. Collateral is the best Tom Cruise movie in some time. He did a good acting job in Last Samuri, but I thought that movie was just OK. Jamie Fox should have gotten an oscar for Collateral also.
My kids are at the movie going age, so we see a lot each year as part of our family activities. So I probably see 30 or so new movies in theaters every year. The last 2 years, have been pretty bad overall for movies. And it is not just the movies pushing some kind of agenda. It's just that everyone is a rehash or a remake. Very few new ideas. So that is why we are getting remakes of almost every superhero movie, and 20 year old TV show. I saw Eight Below last weekend. Probably the best family movie I have seen in years. It tugged on my heart a lot more than March of the Penguins. We need some more feel good movies. We've seen them before, but a good story and acting can work again and again.
Hollywood doesn't look much better for 2006.
Murder by Death wasn't too bad. I like how they spoof various detectives.
Let me guess: a line from BBM?
The premise is crap. "Beautifully done" crap is still crap.
I wasn't watching the thing. I've been reading this thread, and refreshing the page on IMBD; they have a page that updates with the Oscar winners. Best way to get the word on the winners without having to watch the crappy show.
Over here, Hildy.
I think Leni watched the entire show.
He had all the old actors from that era, most of which, who served their country. Some of them who he interviewed were, Tony Curtis, Cliff Robertson, Eddie Albert and several sweet ladies. It brought tears to my eyes, to see all the old Stars who honored their countries as well as the strong moral messages they presented during that time.
It was particularly painful to see the honor and respect that Hollywood once had for this country. All the old actors were very sad, at what has become of a once great institution.
Leni
I like Tom Hanks, so I was watching to see if his hair was long from the Da Vinci Code movie.
Jack Nicholson looked like the cat who swallowed the canary.

No, just in her 90's!
She's a very lovely lady, for sure.
I'm so glad to know her daddy's a Republican.
But, I don't know HER politics.
Even Sela Ward is "tolerant" on gay issues.
But, she's a lovely woman who does many good things for my hometown.
I can overlook the fact that she wants to work.
BTW, I just bet that Carolyn meant red state manners. ;o)
AFLAC!
