Just wondered what people were giving up for Lent.
Thank God because I had the knife out...LOL.
Whiskey for my men, Beer for my horses!
WOOHOOO!!!!
I stand corrected!
But Fat Tuesday is tomorrow, and I have been told I should not show up with alcohol on my breath for my flight tomorrow, so I had to start early today.
Good catch.
LOL! Red Green. Used to be my favorite show. Possom Lodge is just like the community I live in- if you can call it a 'community'. The only "municiple" building for miles around is bar in the middle of nowhere. even that is "just down the road" which is about 8 miles away, nearest nieghbor is 2 miles away.
"Therefore will I judge every man according to his ways, O house of Israel, saith the Lord God. Be converted, and do penance for all your iniquities: and iniquity shall not be your ruin." Ezechiel 18:30
"Now therefore saith the Lord: Be converted to me with all your heart, in fasting, and in weeping, and in mourning." Joel 2:12
"And saying: Do penance: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:2
"Then Jesus was led by the spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry." Matthew 4:1-2
"From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say: Do penance, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17
"And when you fast, be not as the hypocrites, sad. For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward. But thou, when thou fastest anoint thy head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not to men to fast, but to thy Father who is in secret: and thy Father who seeth in secret, will repay thee." Matthew 6:16-18
"But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, then shall they fast in those days." Luke 5:35
"But Peter said to them: Do penance, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins: and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38
Thanks for the idea.
I'm giving up computer games for Lent (Civilization 3 & 4 are very addicting). In prior years, I gave up Cokes, but now that there's Coke Zero, the health impact will be the same. However, I do plan to fast more, so I'll be cutting back anyway.
What I really want to accomplish during Lent is to rebuild my relationships with my wife and kids. It's been a struggle over the past few years, after being laid off from a job, and paying college tuition for my oldest child and daycare for my youngest.
Of course, I want to grow spiritually. Yesterday's homily at Mass was powerful, as it was centered around "new wine into new skin". It was delivered by a priest who was ordained after the death of his wife. His words touched me greatly, and it felt like Jesus was speaking through him.
In Philly this year, we've only got 39 days of Lent instead of the usual 40 - Cardinal Rigali's giving us Catholics a pass on St. Paddy's Day!
Amen.
no no no...peanut butter not in my coffee...but a spoonful and a sip of coffee and a spoon full and a sip of coffee...
Now, does that make better sense?
yuck!
I'm Methodist...what does it matter?
Tolerance
What is the difference, if any, between abstaining from meat for the whole of Lent, and only abstaining from meat on Fridays?
I'm giving up cheap cigars and fat girls.
you giving up tolerance? noooooo.
The State of Maryland. (I'm moving to FL in mid-April.)
depends on how much you like meat.
depends on how much you like meat.
... And Bubba starts salivating...
