Immigration reform hits the streets

Minutemen, rights group to show up at Hastert's office

By Andre Salles Staff Writer

Two local organizations with differing viewpoints on immigration reform have scheduled the weekend of Feb. 25 to speak their cases.

The Illinois Minuteman Project will convene Feb. 25 at the Centre, 100 Symphony Way in Elgin, seeking members for its fledgling Fox Valley chapter. The meeting, which has been dubbed "No Amnesty," will discuss reforming the immigration system, both locally and nationally.

The next day, the Minutemen plan to rally in front of House Speaker Dennis Hastert's office on north River Street in Batavia to show their support for a House bill that would make illegal immigrants guilty of a federal crime, and would fine companies who hire them.

"I think people are becoming more disgusted with illegal immigration," Rosanna Pulido, head of the Illinois Minuteman Project, said. "I'm thankful that people are getting off the couch and taking back their country."

At the same time on Feb. 26, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights plans to rally at Hastert's office to voice its support for the Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, a Senate bill that would grant temporary citizenship to high school graduates who were brought to the United States before their 16th birthday.

"We believe they should be allowed to have temporary legal status to get a bachelor's degree or an associate's degree or join the military," Marissa Graciosa said. She is a spokesman for the Chicago-based coalition, which organizes immigrant and refugee communities and fights for their rights.

The Illinois Minuteman Project is a local offshoot of the nationwide Minutemen, created in 2004 by Californian Jim Gilchrist.

I'm sure if these rights groups can't get legislation passed in their favor, they'll just sue the Gov.

Bump!!

Can you believe that here in Dallas they are considering hiring illegal aliens to teach in the DISD because they are bilingual. Bilingual? Do you see something wrong with this picture?

What is wrong, is that Americans are No longer Good Enough to work in their own schools.

American leaders, elected officials, and business owners are turning their back on the American Citizens...to make way for the replacement population...

Here's why the DREAM Act is anti-American. Please ask those who support this act the questions at the link. Let's see if we can use this to completely discredit the other side.

"She praised the DREAM Act, proposed by Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, for offering a "path to citizenship" and mentioned the McCain-Kennedy Immigration Bill (Senate Bill 1033) as a viable alternative to the Sensenbrenner bill. SB 1033 creates an exception for essential workers and a new class of visa."

Let me see if I understand this. They want to give a college education to illegal immigrant children. Wouldn't this require more illegals to do the jobs that not even illegals will do.

"Speaker Hastert is working to bring everyone to the table," he said. "We need to strike a balance and find a way to protect our borders, remain fair to those who are following the laws, and respect the tradition of people coming to this country for work and to help their families."

I don't care about respecting the traditions of immigrants. Their traditions are what created the cesspool they come here to escape. When you move to another country you should take on the traditions of its citizens.

Spoken like someone whose spine is made of jello. Perhaps he should just go up and give Teddy and Chuckie big wet ones on the lips. Sounds like a love fest in the making. We're being sold out folks.

Sold out for sure. The very people who are supposed to work for us have more concern for law breakers and their children than us. It's so sad when you think about.

If Hasturd wanted to "remain fair to those who are following the laws", he'd be against anything that takes one penny of my tax dollar to provide anything for illegal immigrants. I've never even had a parking ticket. Hey, Hasturd, what about all those waiting in line and paying their fees. You're not being very fair to them when you aid the line jumpers.

American leaders, elected officials, and business owners are turning their back on the American Citizens...to make way for the replacement population...

The "Grand Experiment" of a democratic republic is being replaced by a two-tiered feudal society that insures total collapse when the middle class (which the government is funded by) is eradicated for the sake of high-dollar political contributors. Offshoring everything possible has weakened this nation tremendously and has totally compromised it's ability to fight a seriously major war if need be.

The "replacement population" is lacking in education, has no wish nor need to assimilate and is thoroughly grounded in Socialist political beliefs. It also is comfortable living under the radar, purchasing false identities and avoiding taxation and SSI contributions - criminals living a criminal life. The denser members here proclaim that these people are necessary to sustain Social Security...quite humorous considering that most don't pay anything into it. Those in (illegal) employment situations that do have SSI detracted consider it the cost of doing business.

Most amusing is the panic running through the illegal population at the threat represented by George's assumption that they want to attain legitimate status and therefore will be "dragged onto the map". That doesn't work for pirates used to taking advantage of every loophole to gain benefits while avoiding all social responsibility.

I have seen a series of stories on TV lately that show teachers are having problems passing their state re-certification exams. Some teachers have failed mulitple times. To me this points out the failure of the government run public school system. Not to mention our liberal college system.

I have some friends that graduated High School with me in 1958 that went on to become teachers. They would have no problems passing a re-certification test today. But that was before the government take over, the Bell Curve, social promotion and other feel good programs. Also, English was the only language taught in school unless you chose to take an extra course to learn a foreign language. The teachers and parents ran the school system, not the government, and organizations like the ACLU would have been thrown off campus.

My - how times have changed.

California, used to lead the nation. Now last I heard California ranks 49 out of the 50 states. (I'm not suprised it isn't 51 out of 50. California is a REAl example on how illegal immigration can pull the rest of the country down the rabbit hole to oblivion.

I am also shocked at the decline in education standards since I went to school in the 60's.

I got my teaching credential 2 years ago and the amount of liberal crap that was 'taught' was ridiculous. And the classes were so easy that I think my then 10-year old son could have passed them (they were nothing like the undergraduate engineering classes I took and were supposedly 'graduate' level work!).

But even worse was the lack of standards and expectations in the schools when I did my student teaching and taught for one semester. Kids aren't expected to know much of anything in math and they expected to have their homework worth 50% to make up for their failing test scores!

Needless to say, I'm moving back to engineering as soon as my son is out of high school. I can't imagine having a teaching career where I know it's a lost cause.

I know. I lived in LA from 1968 to 1980. Things were getting bad then so I moved back to Texas. Now Texas is going the way of California. It is really a shame to see our country being turned into a third world cesspool with the help of our government.

I like your tag line. Yeah, get back into engineering. I'm glad I'm out of the work force now and don't have to put up with what is happening in the work place today.

My oldest granddaughter is having problems getting into college because of her math skills. It's not that she is dumb, it's just that they don't teach (or stress) math now like they did in the 40's and 50's. I guess there is something to "the dumbing down of America" after all.
