A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown.
I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

I think Jim said it was discussed after the last Freep. I did not go to dinner but NPCW and Enterprise seemed interested.

Jim was talking about a West Coast FReeper Cruise in August.

I'm interested, but I don't know if I could go. It's hard to be sure at this time.

H-O-O-R-A-Y !!!
Our Jack is here,
and has us smilin' - -

No, wait!
That reminds me of that *Long Ago* comic strip of my childhood -
Zack Mosley's Smilin' Jack! that began in 1941,
pictured here:

He was a pilot who engaged in stuff for the WWII effort, mainly secret missions in South America.

Uh oh...brings up the very sad memory of his wife, one Jungle Joy..:))
She was lost in a jungle, and we never, never were told what happened to her....

Poor Jack - he isn't smilin' anymore, Jack...:(

THERE'S NO MORE JOY ...

sniff...sniff...SOBBING now...

(Can either wallow in misery, or leave you; laughing..:))

Yes, We were discussing a cruise during dinner. I was on the June 7th cruise to Alaska on the Regal Princess last year. It is a great cruise for those of us in California since it saves us a considerable amount of money not having to fly to Vancouver or Seattle.

The Regal is a great ship. She is in the smallest category of ships that Princess offerers. She is very seaworthy and has a simplistic floor plan. Princess had announced on several occasions that they were selling the Regal, but there was such a firestorm of protests that they have changed their mind every time. Many cruisers don't like the mega ships that have 5000+ passengers on them. The Regal only has around 1,600 passengers so like I said she is one of the smaller ships. The Regal has a theater and a show lounge. Everything in the ship is wheelchair assessable as far as I can tell.

Juneau and Sagway are port with docks, I am not sure about Katchikan. If you have to tender in at this port I am not sure how they handle the wheelchairs. We went to Sitka and used the tenders there. The lady that was one of our dining partners was in a wheelchair and I believe that she went ashore in Sitka. You would have to contact Princess about tenders and wheelchairs. They sometimes have to tender at some of the dock ports due to an excess amount of ships in port that day.

They are adding Glacier Bay to the Regal intinery this year. Last year we went to the Tracy Arm. It was a great experience, but since it was so early in the season we weren't able to get up to the glacier due to the icebergs blocking the way. The cruise was wonderful. It is billed as an inside passage cruise, but IMHO it is not an inside passage cruise. They are only in the insider passage to go to Juneau and Skaway. Perhaps that will change since they are going to Katchican(sp).

If you are talking about this June I don't know if I can afford another cruise that soon. I have been saving my pennies, but we usually go every few years. I would definitely need another female Freeper for roommate. I don't know how well it would fly that I go on a cruise without hubby, but I will entertain the idea and see if he will go along with the program.

I have so many of these saved on my computer but they are huge to put on server. Nice when I have the url like this one. I have put about half dozen on my server & they use up as much space as the couple hundred other pix there.

Hope your son enjoys it!

I think that you should go on the cruise as the Freeper safety and security officer.

A west coast cruise to either Alaska or Hawaii would be grate! One this year and the other next would be fantastic!!
