Cheney's Coverup
OpinionJournal ^ | February 15, 2006

The Vice President shoots a man. Questions must be asked.

The press corps is outraged that the White House waited 20 hours or so to disclose that Vice President Dick Cheney had shot a hunting companion, and we can see why. Don't these Bush people understand that the coverup is worse than the crime?

In the name of media solidarity, and in the interest of restraining the Imperial Presidency, we have put together the following coverup timeline with crucial questions that deserve to be answered:

• 5:30 p.m., Saturday (all times Central Standard Time). Mr. Cheney sprays Harry Whittington with birdshot, and the Secret Service immediately informs local police. Who is Harry Whittington and whom does he lobby for? Does he know Scooter Libby?

• 6:30 p.m. White House Chief of Staff Andy Card informs President Bush that there's been a hunting accident involving the Vice President's party. Did Mr. Bush ask follow-up questions? Was he intellectually curious?

• 7 p.m. Karl Rove tells Mr. Bush that it is Mr. Cheney who did the shooting. Why was this detail withheld for a full 30 minutes from the President? Who else did Mr. Rove talk to about this in the interim? Was Valerie Plame ever mentioned?

• 5 a.m., Sunday. White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan learns that Mr. Cheney is the shooter. He also fails to alert the media. Did he rush to write talking points or fall back to sleep?

• 11 a.m. Katharine Armstrong, owner of the ranch where the shooting took place, blows the story sky-high by giving the news to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. According to Ms. Armstrong, Mr. Cheney told her to do what she thought made sense. Has Ms. Armstrong ever worked for Halliburton?

Exactly, it's gone way beyond ridiculous. It's pure insanity. Ted Kennedy got less scrutiny over Chappaquidick, when it took him even longer to inform the POLICE.

When accidents happen and one is responsible for the other, there are are so many emotional things that happen. My problem is that the media didn't think of any of this in that regard. I heard no reporter ask how the VP was doing. I heard no reporter ask, considering that Cheney has had 4 heart attacks, is the VP ok? The only thing they were interested in what "can we get Cheney on this?" That was obvious during the press conferences. There was no sincere wish that anyone was OK. The press corps didn't care. It was simply a matter of "can we use this against Cheney?" Times have changed. Lives don't matter anymore unless they serve to further an agenda. So sad. Thanks, liberal media. Thanks for proving how far down society has gone in this country.

Is this unreal or what? It just goes to show how many lunatics are out there salivating at the thought of disrupting the Presidency, probably so their terrorist heroes can get a leg up in the war. What`s very telling to me is how the blatant treason on foreign soil committed by AlGore a few days ago is all but completely ignored in favor of this Cheney accident. I mean can you imagine what would happen if someone like Dan Quayle went to some Arab country while Clinton was Prez and said "The US terrorizes Arabs"? They would have absolutely crucified the guy, (look what they did to him for just spelling the word potato wrong!) And then you have to consider that Gore did this in time of war! The bias is un-freggin`-real!!! All the crap the Treason party constantly does to embolden our enemies is just utterly and completely immediately brushed under the rug!

There was an accident and a Vice President's friend was hurt. The VP stayed with him and made sure there was proper care.
Later the press was told.

OK, so where is the public interest in this? It isn't like Cheney was suggesting the shooting as a method of handling Social Security deficits.

How long did it take Hillary to report Vince's suicide?

How long did it take Hillary to disclose she's fired the entier White House travel office.

And I'd like to point out that Drudge disclosed the Monica thing on a Saturday night and the White House nor the press mentioned it until the following Tuesday.

"This department is fully satisfied that this was no more than a hunting accident," the Kenedy County Sheriff's Department announced in a statement issued Monday evening.

Kenedy County Sheriff Ray Salinas said his deputies are conducting an investigation into the shooting but consider it an accident.

Katharine Armstrong said Cheney has gone hunting there for at least 15 years, and she called him "a very conscientious hunter."

"I would shoot with Dick Cheney everywhere, anywhere, and not think twice about it," she said Sunday night. But she said, "The nature of quail shooting ensures that this will happen. It goes with the turf."

Let's compare the two. If Cheney would have acted like Ted did, he would have been dead drunk, have left for eleven or so hours to sober up while Whittington died from lack of medical attention. Then he would have put on a neck brace, sauntered around town for a period of time and gone on to become one of the most embarassing public officials in our nation's history, never holding down a real job in his life.

If Ted Kennedy felt as guilty as he should, he'd drink himself silly as often as he could. Sure enough...

These guys have way too much free time on their hands. For there to be a "cover-up," there must be something to cover up. There is nothing hidden here. Everything is transparent. What is covered up? What WAS covered up? There is no cover up and never was.

I wish President Bush would go quail hunting this weekend and bag a whole limit. No reporters allowed. That would send the MSM further over the edge.

Again - THIS IS SARCASM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is Harry Whittington and whom does he lobby for? Does he know Scooter Libby?

Did Mr. Bush ask follow-up questions? Was he intellectually curious?

Who else did Mr. Rove talk to about this in the interim? Was Valerie Plame ever mentioned?

Did he rush to write talking points or fall back to sleep? Has Ms. Armstrong ever worked for Halliburton?

My Lord this is just too obvious.

The press hasn't treated the President or the VP as human since the 2000 election.

Dehumanizing your political opponents incites hate.

They have done their job well, the bastards.
