Your idea of a "true conservative" would be someone without a prayer of being elected. Maybe 5% of the voters would fit your idea of a "true conservative".

So what are you suggesting that we should do, lower our standard and follow the sheeple crowd? In other words, "justshutupandtakeit"? Sorry. Never. I have to believe that somewhere out there is another Reagan. We just have to find him.

Sanford/Pawlenty would be my dream ticket. Since they aren't running yet, I am leaning towards McCain. For all his hot air on the Sunday shows, when push comes to shove, McCain votes for conservative judges and has a consistent pro-life vote. I am excite dabout McCain. With the current field we have, it is like picking the tallest dwarf.

"I like him but most people have never even heard of him.

Brownback is hardly as popular as you pretend."

I'm not pretending...Stuff happens overnight. Brownback is certainly popular in his state. He is very popular among social conservatives and the pro life community. Time will tell.

At least McCain has a fairly conservative track record...

Do you consider pushing a bill through the Congress and getting it signed by the President that abrogates and flies in the face of the First Amendment a conservative track record? Do you propose that wanting to severely limit our military in its ability to perform its duty as protectors of this country a conservative track record? I think you're in the wrong forum.

NEVER MCCAIN - HE IS A TRAITOR. Not Republican. Not Democrat. A TRAITOR. His actions in the midst of our political discourse have NULLIFIED everything he swore to uphold as a soldier, much less a Congressman. He deserves NOTHING.

"Allen Keyes - Male vote, Catholic vote & Black vote"

Did he win *any* of those categories when he ran in Illinois or Maryland Senate race?

"I have principle and I stick to them."

Yes, and the principle seems to be - badmouth Republicans until the Democrats are a majority again in Congress.

Please, join The Party of the Circular Firing Squad, you['d fit in better.

Rudy/Newt and I don't care the order or position.
I think we are about to face serious challenges on all fronts, and I want someone who knows he has been there before and has been tested by fire.
If something happened to either one, the other is very strong to step in. I want security and a stop to the Muzzies to be the main topic.

We will NOT have any economy if we don't stop the radicals.
We won't have any schools nor education if we don't stop the radicals.
We won't have gas at any price nor a car to drive nor a job or school to go to if we don't stop the radicals.

They want to kill all who are not Muslim, and they have no compromises in mind.
The world will revert to 7th Century standards if they keep making progress on their agenda.
I want a Prez and VP who understand this and are not afraid to vote the screwballs off the island.
It is time we started paying attention to what's happening on our own soil.
Build the wall with Mexico, and keep the other troublemakers off the airplanes and out of the USA. Send the rest back to their miserable existance where they came from, and most of all:

Santorum is 95% lifetime ACU Conservative. He voted for Roberts and Alito, the latter of whom would not be on the court if Kennedy and Leahy were in the majority.
Santorum voted for tax reductions that helped our economy do very well since 2003, tax reductions the Democrats opposed.

He is running against a Chuckie Schumer-Hillary-supported liberal Democrat.

Yes, santorum is running behind, no thanks to the anti-santorum trolls on this board. Mighty swell of you to show your stripes and kick a conservative when he's down.
Hillary is appreciative of your work on her behalf!

"Huh?? He's a Hall of Fame receiver, a rare black Republican, and has a great smile. Isn't that enough? /sarc"

You dont need sarcasm there ... Swann is all that and is *NOT* the corrupt, socialistic, partisan, power-mongering pol that Ed Rendell is. It wil be accomplishment enough to evict Rendell. But I think Swann is being underestimated here due to assumptions about him as a 'jock'...

Some comments on Swann from PA GOP committee members:

http://swannblog.com/2006/02/14/state-gop-committee-members-are-firmly-united-behind-and-energized-by-lynn-swann-and-jim-mathews/#more-152

"Next, I asked them about their own personal opinions of both Lynn Swann and Jim Mathews as Republican candidates. Based upon their responses they both feel that the State Committee endorsed two very strong Republican candidates. In her assessment of Lynn Swann, Pat stated that “the first time I had an opportunity to personally meet Lynn Swann (very small group of 8 people) I was fully expecting a “jock”, after all, the guy is in the Football Hall of Fame. The gentleman I actually met came across as intelligent, well spoken / articulate, having significant leadership abilities, capable, professional, organized, strong work ethic - not at all what I was anticipating. In the past, if the incumbent was a strong, popular individual, often the campaigns and our candidates were lackluster at best. After all, who wants to go into a race where they most likely will come out with the reputation of “loser”. Lynn Swann is not a loser!!!”. Bruce shared his thoughts about Jim Matthews by stating in his email that “Jim Matthews, is going to be a big hit. He speaks well and has that kind of disarming Irish charm. And he is a fiscal conservative, small business owner, and pro-life, too.” "

Blackirish, interesting analysis.

Rudy is strong on leadership and on GWOT issues. In fact, I'm sorry Bush didnt tap him to be AG after Ashcroft left.

But there are 2 other pillars of the Republican party:
- social conservatism
- fiscal conservatism

Rudy is simply not a social conservative. I recognize that as NYC mayor he had different social pressures to contend with. but beyond that his personal life may be an issue.

I think if Rudy came out strong, a la Jack Kemp, for tax overhaul or a flat tax, it would stir up the conservative base for him.

Pence: I think the conservative movement two years from now will be where it is today, where it was 50 years ago, and where it will be 50 years from now. It will be a strong and steady belief among millions of Americans in limited government, fiscal discipline, a strong defense, and traditional moral values. I hold to the view that while Washington and political movements make great pretenses, the real conservative movement is fixed in the American ideals of the overwhelming majority of our country. I think that when Ronald Reagan won 49 of our states, it was not because he necessarily expressed the ideals of any particular party, but he expressed American ideals of limited government, individual responsibility, a strong defense, and traditional moral values. And he did that unapologetically. And I think to the extent that our movement rises or falls, it will be exclusively based on the clarity with which we articulate what is in the hearts of the overwhelming majority of the American people.

OKAY, I'm changing my vote. Until I see another Republican say it this clearly, Pence for President.

Condi Rice is such a huge mistake to tout as President

Maybe in YOUR opinion. All these posts about Pence - 5%, Santorum - 2.6% and McCain - 4.6% are all totally ignoring the fact that Condi is leading the poll at 20%. She is obviously the People's Choice.

Just because she said she doesn't want to run means nothing. Dwight D Eisenhower ALSO insisted he didn't want to run - but he did.

Condi would win if she ran. The only ones who would have a problem with her are the closet racists and closet sexists who would not want to see a black woman in the White House.

If you think the "State Dept." Condi is all there is to this woman - take another look at her background.

No, I do not consider his positions on those issues as conservative, nor am I a supporter of his. Still, in the interest of honesty, I pointed out that he does have a conservative track record overall. His lifetime American Conservative Union rating is 83%, which is fairly conservative. His record on almost all conservative voting record ratings puts him among the more conservative members of the U.S. Senate. I point this out because so many on this site are quite wary of him, but give others with no track record, or a less conservative record a pass. In particular, I was responding to a post that wondered why there was so much support for Condi and so much revulsion for McCain. McCain's personality grates on my nerves and I strongly disagree with the position he has taken on a number of issues lately. That does not stop me from being honest about his record. Again, I bring this up
to raise the question as to why some potential candidates, with a far less conservative record, or none at all, are receiving so much support on this forum.
