It sure looks that way and the 'party faithful' seem all to willing to support them.

I just came back from CPAC and I have to say that I was shocked and disappointed to see the large numbers of people willing to use the Federal Government to enforce their beliefs and still consider themselves conservatives. The same goes for their choice of candidates. I have to wonder what they are thinking.

I'll write in Ron Paul / Tom Tancredo regardless of who gets "the nomination"

John Tyler was never elected to the Presidency--he took over when William Henry Harrison died after one month in office (thanks to giving the longest-ever inaugural address, in bad weather).

Even if both candidates on the Republican ticket were black, 85% of the black vote will go to the Democrat.

I could go for a ticket of Rumsfeld and Bolton.

I read the Pence website, but don't see where he stands on traditional marriage, or hate crimes laws and such.

Pence or Allen are most likely.

Tancredo would get an even more withering attack from the media than W currently enjoys. And moderate GOPers would flake out too but they will do that to Pence as well.

It's pretty wide open.

I hope we don't do 96 again.

It looks pretty vague and uninspiring right now.

We can only hope the Left continues with wooden stilted candidates as they have last two rounds.

Mike Pence

He could be more careful in his talks about freedom etc. when he refers to man, and mankind conspicuously excluding women. Just thought his word choice at CPAC conference speech was unusual. But he seems the most Reagan of the lot.

I agree. Despite the dismay of some FR's Rudy polls very well with cultural conservatives and leads everyone in the national polls. Allen is just too good ol boy...and after two...clintoon and W. The country wants a change. If we want to beat Hillary... Rudy will mop her up in the debates. I believe he could even take New york...win by 40 states.
I'm more to the libertarian side and tough on WOT so I'm inclined towards him anyway.
With the Supreme court now in our hands if Rudy is a little left on social positions it won't matter. Plus he will have to move to the right to win the primary.

But from now on I will try to refrain from arguing with Allen supporters...we have over 2 years to argue and I'll wait till the primaries...I don't have the time. LOL

You can search this site for any thread on Santorum and get lots more information, but to get you started:

He supported liberal Arlen Specter over conservative Pat Toomey in the primary. By helping to elect Specter, Santorum cancelled out his own pro life votes. Being pro life is his main claim to fame. He has also supported other pro choice candidates such as Christie Todd Whitman and others whose names escape me at the moment.

This support led me to examine his record more closely. Over the course of the last 24 months he has also supported a hike in the minimum wage following a pledge to a union to do so, a union whose support he now has. He also wants to raise the tax base on SS benefits.

He voted for mandatory gun locks. He voted against more security on the border. He voted for the Law Of The Sea (LOST) Treaty -- which jeopardizes our sovereignty. He is for increasing our contribution to the UN.

He's a hypocrite. He first won elective office claiming that the Dem he ran against wasn't a PA resident because he lived full time in Virginia. Now Ricky has a full time residence in Virginia that came with a $775,000 price tag.

To try to cover his sorry lying ass, he maintains that he owns a home in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh. The trouble is that Ricky and wife and kids (5 or 6) can't fit into the tiny 2 BR bungalow (roughly $100,000) that is already occupied by his wife's brother and his wife. The home was owned by his wife's parents prior to that. I seriously doubt that Ricky would ever move back there once he leaves office.

To add insult to injury (or vice versa) he had some of his children enrolled in a cyber school in PA that cost the school district in excess of $100,000. This controversy did result in their withdrawal and they are now homeschooled in VA. If he had moved into one of the area's wealthier and Republican districts, this might not have been an issue. Instead he used this home in a working class Democrat neighborhood where the annual income is probably one third of Ricky's senatorial paycheck. If not improper, it was certainly boneheaded and insensitive to those who would be footing the bill.

Then there was his jury duty fiasco. He ignored the notice to serve -- possibly because the mail didn't come the his actual residence in VA -- and then publicly proclaimed that he was too busy to serve and they should have known that.

He supported the building of sports stadiums for 4 private teams in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The price tag of that 'deal' will be ONE BILLION DOLLARS. Some conservative ideal, huh? But what did he care? He lives in VA and won't be paying for them.

Did I mention that after supporting Specter, he was asked if he was worried about losing votes from pro life voters. His response was, "My pro life voters will still vote for me. Where else do they have to go?"

He has dug his own grave on many issues and has dared us to push him into it. I think that he is going to get what he asked for, but he is too arrogant to believe it.

I'd like to continue, but I have to get back to work. There is plenty of evidence for anyone who wants to give this an honest look. He's a pretender and we fell for it.

Hey, McCain is on the list of choices

Yeah, but that is only to make it a trick question. The question was, "Who is your favorite Republican".

"Allen Keyes - Male vote, Catholic vote & Black vote"

You just don't get it. Dr. Keyes is more likely to get the Conservative Constitutionalist "Redneck" Baptist vote than any black or Catholic vote. Most of the moderates on Freerepublic hate the man because of his Conservatism and Righteousness. Do you really think that blacks will vote for someone just because they are the same skin color as themselves? I'd bet Dr. Keyes would get less black votes than Bush did, and he only got what.....about 9 percent or so?
