WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington on Friday condemned caricatures in European newspapers of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, siding with Muslims who are outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.
"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.
"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."

There are Muslims on our side in Iraq, fighting side by side with our soldiers. Our own soldiers are saying this. Are they lying? Are they deceived? We have bigger fish to fry than some silly cartoon scare in euroweenieLand and I'm glad that most of the people here in FR aren't calling US foreign policy shots at this moment. Shame on many of you. You are forgetting our troops.

It's not about press responsibility. It's about fighting back and a group that wants us all to live under their rules.

He did worse than that. He married a 6 year old and consummated that marriage when she was 9. That is the founder of their religion.

Sorry, we are boring each other so I will bow out. We differ on this issue. The ubersensitive Muslims need to get a life and allow other religions, peoples and cultures to live in peace. Period.
To date most Islamic countries, including Iraq do not allow that to happen. Iraq is a noble experiment. This is Islam's chance to shine. If Iraq fails Islam fails.

"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression ..." This guy has obviously been posted overseas for at least ten years.

You weren't boring me. Sorry to see you bow out. And we don't differ on the issue as much as you think. If I could snap my fingers today and magically convert all of Islam to anything else, Zen Buddhism, atheism, anything. I would do it.
But reality bites and we have to live with it and part of that reality is our President has set our troops in the field --- in an action most of us here agree with and believe is for our overall good --- with allies who happen to be of the Religion of Hatred persuasion and the State Dept has to deal with that and the Defense dept.
I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if Defense wasn't the one who ASKED State to say what it said today. If they did, they wouldn't say so publicly.

I think the State Dept. needed on this issue to keep their mouths shut if they wanted to pander. Best not say anything.
We are trying to teach the M.E. hopefully better forms of government and a major aspect of that is free speech.
Sure Free Speech provides a forum where people will say and write things other people do not like.
I look here at FR as a prime example. We hear what the dummocrats say and do not like it. Sometimes we would just like to shut them up forever and the best way to do that is win the battle of ideas. Here at FR we have an opportunity to sharpen our wits and strength our arguments.
That is what the Islamics need to do. If they can't handle the criticism then they need to sharpen their arguments why their religion is not backward and irresponsible. They have not done that. No they riot and act like immature children.
Islam is weak in its argument for existence. It provides no sure salvation without suicidal death. It provides no equality among genders, races, and chooses a path of destruction here on earth.
Well Islam it is time for you to enter the arena of ideas and not the arena of fatuitous totalitarianism since your religion is also a political philosophy.
The State dept. failed in not defending the Euros. They failed to make the point of free speech. They failed this nation by making such inconsistent comments. And they failed the Islamics by not making them question their fatuities.
I say next time, get it right, and I stand firm with the Euros on this.
As a Jesus believer, when Christianity is mocked, my reaction is not riot but to pray for peoples souls that the unbeliever and the mocker may exist forever and know the beauty of our Lord. Sure it hurts, sure it is a cause for anger. But it should never be a reason to destroy in the name of the Creator.
If Islam is submission to God, then it is demanded of them, absolutely demanded of them to do the same as the Christian in the same situation. Period.
And yea Condi, if you ok'd this, you failed.

"If Islam is submission to God, then it is demanded of them, absolutely demanded of them to do the same as the Christian in the same situation. Period."The thing is that their god is not God. It is something else.

I'm of a mind that if those churches that were burnt in Alabama were torched by muslims there will be a calculated cover-up and we will never find out who did it.

I posted tripe such as you post over at democratic underground and they banned me. But I see the conservatives allow moonbats to have their say here. Now who is for freedom of speech?
