In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.
Close Call
Then came the unexpected:

It was on c-span and I don't know if there is a transcript but they sell dvd's etc. of all their programming. Broward Bar Assn. January 9th was the speaking engagement, The c-span broadcast was on a few times at odd hours.
Rumor has it that he even owns/owned shares in the company that put up the billboards. If that is true, he paid himself for the illegal billboards. That's what a democrat in New Jersey did. At a forum for all judicial candidates, Greer did a dodge and weave about his billboards and also about his eyesight.
The current administration will not lay a glove on Greer imo but there is no statute of limitations on murder, judge or no judge. Greer's wary of South Dakota's chapter of Jail4Judges. I wonder why.
Excerpt:
... In all these cases, the phrase "will not recover" was used, it seemed to Not Dead Yet protesters, as a kind of shorthand to justify the withdrawal of life-sustaining measures.
And this, perhaps more than any other point, was one we heard made from the Not Dead Yet camp: that people who were seriously disabled with "no hope of recovery" were seen as burdens on society in terms of their costs, their medical care, their needs.
People in the disability rights movement, by and large, are people who have serious disabilities. Virtually none of them will "recover." To them, the phrase -- its constant and patently unexamined use -- signaled an attitude much in evidence throughout society: that people who could not recover would be better off dead. Or that their families, or society, would be better off -- economically, certainly -- if they were dead.
That is a hard message to hear. And even if your disability is not on the surface anything like Terri Schiavo's, even if you can think and speak and write and work, if your disability is so serious that you require a feeding tube or a breathing tube or even a catheter -- and if you're not going to recover -- you fear being treated like Terri Schiavo. Maybe sooner, if you're admitted to the hospital for something unrelated like pneumonia or a tubal ligation and told that you should sign a "do not resuscitate" order -- something a number of our readers have reported happening to them. Maybe later, if your disability progresses to a point where you need more equipment, more assistance. But looming always.
No that seems to be your point. I said she couldn't safely swallow.
Justifications come from the 'crats.
The tragic events surrounding Haleigh Poutre reflect the extraordinary challenges our social service agencies face with limited resources to support our most needy children and families. We need a safety net for these children but that cant be done without sufficient resources.

See my earlier post #942 to you. As I tried to explain, chances were very good that Terri would have been able to swallow just fine, if only staff were allowed to take the time to feed her. When it comes to "safely", remember the goal was to kill her.
It is not enough to call on high and lofty medical experts to declare she couldn't swallow. That was my point. We proved the opposite in our case. Terri just wasn't that bad off as so many wished. It took a lot for them to kill her.
ST PETERSBURG, FL - The family of Terri Schiavo responded Tuesday to Senator Mel Martinez's recent interview with television news channel, Bay News 9, in which he expressed regret for his involvement in the Senate's move to protect Schiavo's life in March of 2005.
And the similarities only escape the willfully deranged.

It took you 900 posts to peck out that witty rejoinder?
LOL. Get a life.
And you are a sorry one pickle face. Grow up.
"Pickle face"?
Is that the best you've got? LMAO! See ya.
I see ya alright. Your name is instigation. If you can't make any intelligent comment..insult people.
OK..I'll play. You won't win but I'll play.
Who's instigating?
You are the one who replied to a post I made to someone else two weeks ago.
I have work to do today. I don't have the time to spend on you people.
You should have put up a picture describing the post. It would have been much more mature. (/sarc)
Here is a fine example for you.
Translation: Please don't fire us. Give us more money.
One reply to this is that PVS patients hardly ever last 15 years. The long duration of her condition is therefore excellent evidence that Terri was not PVS (as so many physicians, nurses and others observed).
It is also worth noting that Haleigh was not declared to be PVS, but rather "virtually PVS." That's weasel wording portraying her as a candidate for snuffing but admitting she wasn't that bad. Use the magic word "PVS," then you get to kill her! Somebody couldn't wait to carve Haleigh up for body parts. An abused child like that, who'd miss her?
Similarities: neither was really PVS. Both were victims of severe trauma.
Difference: We think we know who beat Haleigh. Nobody is offering any theory how Terri was suddenly brain-damaged and left for dead in 1990. (Nobody but us Freepers, anyway.)
Glad to see you all are holding up. I've been battling the cartoon wars on the global front.
I still hold a place in my heart for you guys.
Never give up the fight against euthanasia-on-demand. I'm counting on you and so are millions of disabled Americans.
Your cause is a noble one.
