The tragic events surrounding Haleigh Poutre reflect the extraordinary challenges our social service agencies face with limited resources to support our most needy children and families. We need a safety net for these children but that can’t be done without sufficient resources.

Although it is both appropriate for the Legislature to investigate what went wrong in Haleigh’s case, we as legislators to use this opportunity to support an outstanding commissioner who has the vision and talent to help reweave the web of support for children and to adequately fund the services these children so badly need.

Translation: Please don't fire us. Give us more money.
