Reuters Additional Information
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Police at the U.S. Capitol arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Tuesday, shortly before President Bush was to give his annual State of the Union speech, a police spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman, Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, said she had no immediate details.
Sheehan had been invited to be a guest at the address to a joint session of Congress by U.S. Rep. Lynn Woolsey, a California Democrat.
Sheehan, who became a central figure for the U.S. anti-war movement after her soldier son Casey was killed in the Iraq war, won wide attention with an anti-war vigil outside Bush's Texas ranch.
CNN said Sheehan was arrested after unveiling a banner and was being held on Capitol Hill for about an hour, which would keep her away from the address, which was set to start at 9 p.m. EST.
Sheehan and other activists were arrested in September for protesting outside the White House without a permit, a misdemeanor that carriers a $50 fine.

A newsroom type shares notes:
This from Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of U-S Capitol Police.... Cindy Sheehan was arrested in the gallery of the house floor tonight and charged with demonstrating in the Capitol--a misdemeanor. ...Sgt. Schneider says she was wearing a T-shirt with a slogan on it and was asked to cover it up. Sheehan did not cover it up and she was arrested. ....She is being processed at Capital Police hd and is expected to be released at some point tonight. The misdemeanor charge carries one year in jail. .."
And the moonbats are claiming this was surpression of the first amendment!!!
Police also removed a Congressional wife wearing a pro-troops shirt from last night's State of the Union Address:

ONE YEAR in jail. Here's hoping she gets the max.
Cindy Sheehan was probably removed from the SOU gallery to avoid the televised spectacle of Republicans spitting on her. Democrats would not spit on the mother of a deceased soldier, regardless of her political orientation.
You can cut out your holier-than-thou stuff now, please.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!
LOL. I know someone who was banned from DU for saying he didn't like the former lead singer of Rage Against the Machine's musical abiliites.
Nothing against the actor. Cindy Sheehan is just THAT ugly and completely undesirable.
Has there been any proof that she was hand cuffed? I have yet to see a photo.
Really? They certainly have no problem spitting on the soldier.
You must be joking. Republicans spat upon Cindy Sheehan?!? LOL When did that happen? Or did you only imagine that happened, thus it must have happened?
Kind of like how the Bush National Guard documents were "fake but accurate"? Please!
There's a scripture about a "spirit of grief" - and if you allow it to overtake you - it will take you places you did not want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you can pay.
Pretty sad, actually.
That is the most ridiculous, over-used phrase ever.
I see Cindy Sheehan verbally spat upon here every day. It doesn't require any leap of faith to imagine what the Republicans would have done to Cindy last night if her First Amendment rights had not been violated and she survived the ordeal alive.
She really is becoming unhinged.
Sorry, the Capitol Police have a compelling interest in maintaining order during the State of the Union speech. Room full of important people, and all that.
"She really is becoming unhinged."
She's unhinged, and the Congresswoman who gave her the invitation is unscrupulous.
She gets exactly what she deserves.
Do you have any idea how much it sucks to have Woolsey, Boxer and Feinstein as representatives?
BTW, Woolsey is dumb as a box of rocks.
Her claim to fame: a welfare Mom who got elected to Congress.
