From DiFi's office:

Senator Feinstein to Vote No on Cloture for the Nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that she will vote no on cloture regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

“Based on a very long and thoughtful analysis of the record and transcript, which I tried to indicate in my floor statement yesterday, I’ve decided that I will vote no on cloture.”

Or the democRats do a token filibuster that lasts up to the brink of the "Nuclear Option" -- then they cave voting for cloture.

Good point - I hadn't thought of that. That brings to mind another likely scenario - the democrats filibuster, the GOP threatens to go nuclear and both side end up making a deal.

I think the "nuclear" option is a very appropriate name for the maneuver as just like retaliating with a real nuclear attack, the republican senators really, really do not want to use it and will do almost anything to avoid it. They see the threat of its use as a deterrent but if the democrats may call their bluff.

Am I supposed to tear out my hair and screech madly like a, well, Hillary Clinton because a Liberal Californian is playacting relevancy for her infuriated lunatics she calls a base?

Tone down the hysteria a notch...or three.

1) The Democrats are not calling the Republicans bluff. Sorry, but no. The Democrats are flustered because their base is upset, they know they don't have the votes, and they are caught in a hard spot. 'Cause I guarentee certain Dems up for re-election are right now telling Kerry, and Kennedy and the other losers they aren't going down the Tom Daschle Titanic on this one.

2) I don't trust the spine of Reps. Hell..I was on the thread that burst blood vessels when Voinovich came out of nowhere and blocked Bolton. It was that assinine movement that brought the Judge thing to a head last year, and I was one of the many actively involved in giving the GOP/Dems a headache those months. I've stated I refuse to forgive DeWine, McCain, Linds etc...for that stunt. I've stated to be cautious in assuming this was a done deal because they can't be trusted to hold the line. Trust is based on merit. They've given nothing to us up to this point. I've stated I'm withholding praise for Reps for their actions so far to date because I've given them praise and then had them yank the rug out before the deal was done. You are NOT speaking to someone that has a high opinion of 91% of the members in the United States Senate.

And, yet, I'm telling you at this point Alito is going to be confirmed as things stand right now. Because all I see from the expression on the faces of Dems is fear and awkwardness. All I see, from Specter of all people, is confidence there will be no filibuster. Could it change? Uh-huh. But as of now he's safe.

3) If there is a filibuster, I welcome it. I welcome failing to break cloture. I welcome the opportunity to do what the gutless fourteen prevented a year earlier. Either a) breaking down the UNCONSTITUTIONAL Senate Rule so we can finally get our lower courts judges through and not have to stomach this nonsense over Supreme Nominees anymore or b) putting the Seantors, RINO's & DEMS, on record.

I know as well as anyone that those Fourteen weren't the only ones involved. Lott was pulling strings. Murkowski in background, so about a dozen others. I want them put on record. Why should they lurk in the shadows and sabotage us? Call THEIR bluff. See how many when a recorded vote is on the line, will obstruct. Them nuke them in their elections if there is betrayal.

BTW, one thing to keep in mind...'08 is a Presidential year. High Rep/Conservative turnout guarenteed. It's not just '06 Dems with their butt on the line over this, but '08 Dems too. Keep that in mind.

At any rate, you can call or write your Senator....but speak in a CALM show of support for Alito if you do. It'll contrast with the lunatics on the Left nicely. Prayer is always good. Other then that, I refuse to join in hysterics. While I don't have confidence in the Spines of Reps, neither am I persuaded by the actions of the Dems that they believe they hold the cards. Frist currently has the cards, if he didn't, he wouldn't have sent Specter out to confront Reid on the Senate floor.

Next week the DUmmies will be crying like they did after the election, when they were SO SURE because the exit polls were saying that Kerry would win.

Ah, finally, exactly correct response.

I remember that day. Freepers were freaking out, well, most. I was trying to talk people off the cliff, to little effect. Preferred to wait for REAL votes to come in. The stock market plunged on news Kerry might be president. LOL. The lunatics were doing cheers. Then it became clear what the reality was, and the attmosphere flipped. This thread and the reaction of Kos and the other sites reminds me of that day.

Yeah, like anything liberals do is the result of "thoughtful analysis".

About as much as a bear relieving himself in the woods is.

I tried phoning my senators this afternoon and the circuits to the Capitol were overloaded. There must have been a real blitz happening from the loon left.

I know I couldn't believe that when I heard it on the News. Talk about timing and she had to put out a comment in the new that she made the decision before Cindy said that. Yeaaaa riiiiight! Why are these idiot Democrat Senators giving Cindy power? Who the heck is this woman? A NOBODY!

They also hate Alito because Bush selected him. Anyone that Bush selected would be instantly hated by the Leftists.

Many democrats certainly do have an unhealthy hate for Bush, but in this case it is all about ideology. If Bush were to nominate a known ideological clone of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, they certainly would not threaten a filibuster.

Salazar was one of those Dems (like Pryor and Lincoln in Arkansas) who won because conservatives sat out to "send a message" to the GOP. In the case of Col., it was because Pete Coors made his fortune in {gasp} alcohol. Does anyone believe that the Republican Pryor defeated in 2002 because conservatives stayed home would have voted against Alito?

And regarding Salazar, Pryor and Lincoln, let this be a lesson to Republicans who stay home to send their messages that the only message you send when you vote against a Republican is that you support the liberal Democrat who will defeat him or her. Then what will the conservatives say?
