From DiFi's office:
Senator Feinstein to Vote No on Cloture for the Nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court
Washington, DC U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that she will vote no on cloture regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
Based on a very long and thoughtful analysis of the record and transcript, which I tried to indicate in my floor statement yesterday, Ive decided that I will vote no on cloture.
Yep, and good for her (and all of us) to strive to achieve this.
They will never stop behaving like babies. When they win an election, they can pick a USSC judge. The republicans confirmed Ginsberg & Alito is not even close to her on the "extreme" measurement. Anyone who watched those hearings know Alito is more than qualified for the job.
Frist has the votes to go nuclear. Period.
Now, he WON'T if we go nuclear just to do it like some on this thread suggest.
But, if he does it because Alito is filibustered and cloture fails, he will have 50 votes.
Actually, what have they got to lose if they filibuster?
If they don't, Soros might cut off the teat.
C'mon!
Alright, I'll grant you that the cry baby from Ohio might flake out.
Now where are the obstructionists going to find their next three marks?
Look, no one has less faith in the feckless, pusillanimous weenies in the Republican conference than I do, but to suggest that six of them-and Senator Nelson-would abandon ship on the nuke option is absurd.
They had the votes for nuking before the Gang of 7 arrived.
The only reason we still have the judicial filibuster is because Senator Frist was too weak to corral rogues like John McCain and his mini-me, Lindsay Graham.
Trust me, he's learned from that mistake.
Almost rather than changing the rules, I would rather see Frist make them actually filibuster and stand up and speak. But never lay out any more business for the senate to do until the vote comes. Make the democrats earn it. I wonder if John Kerry can break Strom Thurmond's record? I doubt it.
I hope so.
Doesnt matter, he will vote yes for cloture.
Ben Nelson of Nebraska is now taking a tally of how people want him to vote.
He said he would vote "yes" for Alito earlier, but now he's not sure.
LOL, Fiftyone! 10 seconds late and a dollar short. Gotta get your typing speed up!
Never again. Never again will a Ruth Bader Ginsburg be nominated for the Supreme Court without plenty of opposition in the Senate. This is utter nonsense. The Dems can't pick the Supreme Court when they're out of power. It's as simple as that.
And the New York Times has become a piece of utter trash.
Yes it seems quite a few Democrat Senators are doing that - It seems they are a bunch of cowards who can't stick it out.
I think it was the Hairball show last night that I was watching..Chrissy and guest were opining that with filibuster talk, and negative talk about Alito all this weekend...
the polls may take the "for" number down to at least 50% or lower...thus, giving the dems the "proof" they need to go ahead and filibuster...
I know I saw that somewhere...and I was just laughing..but, I wonder if some of these dems are waiting for rigged up poll results.
Thats incorrect. There are more then 7.. There are just 7 that said it.. There are close to 11-15. We only 3.
Trust me.. there will be no filibuster.
Scott McClellan actually said something witty for once.
Kudos to him.
You know, I'd prefer that Frist knows he has the 50 votes and doesn't go public with it and swats down the Dems' filibuster. That would also silence them, not only now, but also in the future with lower court nominees. And for all we know that is just what he is doing.
Source?
I hope you are right. Alot of the Democrat Senators are worried because DUers are threatening to withhold votes for them.
Ben Nelson of NEBRASKA does not know how his constituents want him to vote on Alito??? Liar.
