Do you know how far away we are from forcing cloture if Kerry filibusters?

Kerry saying he will filibuster just means there will be a cloture vote. But cloture would pass easily. I think the DEMs may maneuver so that Alito will have 60 votes to confirm anyway. That would make a cloture vote (and the risk of nuclear option) moot.

Yeah, Salazar is all about affirmative action, because Alito isn't a qualified woman--why can't it just be about the best QUALIFIED, regardless of gender, race, etc.???

Sounds to me as though Byrd has just claimed "Independence" from the Liberal interest groups. Sure, it's based on election priorities, but note the other red state Dems didn't blast their own party even while agreeing to vote for Alito. The Liberal interest groups are going to view this as a bigger threat than Alito... somewhat akin to Zell Miller, though Zell's was more driven of conscience. A Democrat claiming Independence of Dem Senate, Kos, Neas and DU? Interesting...

They sure have an odd idea of "separation of powers" over at DU, though.

Damn this one is too good to pass....

adigal (1000+ posts) 110. Alito PROMISED him that he will check the Executive branch.

This man is, sorry to say, too damned old to be doing this. He is from another era. He also said Roberts would check the power of the Executive, and must not know that Roberts just voted FOR executive power.

God, I hate being a Democrat.

Yo!

I am from Colorado. Pete Coors was not public speaker either.

I would have been just as embarrassed when he opened his mouth anywhere. Even two days before the General Election...Coors was bad as a speaker!

I'm a woman and I've said the same thing many, many times. I often find it "cancelling" a husband's vote. I know a lot of dudes that are furious at their wives because the female votes tend to be "one issue" votes.

It took me years to convince my 87 year old mother that Roosevelt was no longer running the Dem Party....and also...telling her that "you still think it's okay to kill unborn babies".

When I hear woman say "he's so cute, I just have to vote for him", I cringe...

I have a friend who makes no effort to learn anything about any person or issue before the election. She goes into the voting booth, closes her eyes, and waits for harmonics from the universe to indicate how she should vote. Incredible.

"14. I was too late.

90% of the calls he got were from Alito supporters. His staff told me that...I was too late.

I tried.

I should have called yesterday."

LMAO - Yeah DUmmie. He voted FOR Alito because your DUAC DUAC campaign couldn't make enough phone calls. They're totally clueless over there.

How about them littlest unborn Americans there, Mr. Salazar? Why don't you people practice what you preach?
