Because of your efforts, NBC cancels 'Book of Daniel'
Dear (just received this through e-mail),
NBC's anti-Christian program The Book of Daniel has been cancelled! Your efforts, combined with those of hundreds of thousands of other AFA Online supporters, had an impact.
NBC's decision to pull The Book of Daniel shows the power of the pocketbook. NBC didn't want to eat their economic losses. Had NBC not had to eat millions of dollars each time it aired, NBC would have kept The Book of Daniel on the air. Because of your efforts, the sponsors dropped the program. NBC then decided it didn't want to continue the fight.
Even an impassioned plea by Daniel's producer Jack Kenny could not match your participation. "Ordinarily, I would never ask anyone to do this, but the AFA and bullies like them are hard at work to try and prevent you from seeing these beautiful shows, and that is censorshippure and simple. And that is both un-Christian and un-American," Kenny wrote. His attitude is typical in todays society. Non-Christians telling Christians what is Christian.
People like Kenny don't want people like you to have a voice. They want to deny you the right to get involved. You are supposed to sit back and take the trash. And when you do speak up they call you names.
This shows us that we don't have to simply sit back and take the trash, but we can get involved and fight back with our pocketbooks. I want to thank the 678,394 individuals who sent emails to NBC and the thousands who called and emailed their local affiliates.
Thanks for caring enough to get involved!
Finally, if you think our work is deserving of support, would you please send a small donation to help us continue. Click here.
Sincerely,
Don

I seriously doubt it had anything to do with this group's boycott... the show just sucked. Dozens of shows are canceled every year for the same reason.
I think it died a quicker than normal death, though, because of the boycott. I read one newspaper article that so many advertisers were pulling ads (because of the boycott) that NBC was losing $2-$3million per showing.
Show's that suck, but pull in advertisers, still survive. Like pretty much anything on ABC.

What amazes me is that "Da Vinci Code" was not protested and stores boycotted. That is just as offensive if not more than a TV show. When it came out, I expected it to be pulled from grocery stores due to complaints but perhaps stay in bookstores. I sure didn't expect it to sell so much!
Ya know.. you (as Rush would say) swerved into the truth. "The Book of Daniel" probably wouldn't have ignited as much controversey as it did if it didn't have an actor portraying Jesus as kind of a "hip" spirtual dude.
If all they had done was have the priest character talking to himself as if he were talking to Jesus the show would have probably lived on. As soon as you give a name and a face to God, you're going to step on people's toes.
Da Vinci Code didn't offend me. To me, it was clearly presented as a man's interpretation of things that may or may not be there -- (i.e. the images in the paintings). It wasn't a great story (it may not even be an original story, Dan Brown and his publisher have been/are being sued for plagerism)... but to me it was clearly presented as a "What if"... and I have no problem with "what if" stories.
The Book of Daniel was more of a "This is how Christian life is..." Very little "What if" to it.
But several churches did have book burnings of Da Vinci Code. I'm sure we'll see more of them as we get closer to the movie opening date.

Check out Duvall's movie with James Earl Jones as his (unbeknownst) half brother. He wrote it. It was wonderful: A Family Thing.

It was only near the end of the show, when Linus recited the passages from the Gospel of Luke, that the religious theme was struck, but when Schultz struck it, he struck it fulsomely, like a Chinese gong...Nice review! Up to now, I only paid attention to the great theme song by Vince Guaraldi, who also wrote "Cast Your Fate to the Wind." But now I'll try to catch it next year.

I'd be curious to see the ratings. I suspect that is more of the cause than the boycott. A boycott by Christians would incline NBC to keep it on the air just to claim they are standing up to censorship. The facts are simple -Christians complained, the show is canceled.

Catholic vote losses were so important to Democrats, that strategists issued a memo on the loss of Catholic constituencies. The memo calls the decline in support of white Catholics for Democrats "striking" and "a big part of the 2004 election story." One key finding is that Catholic voters are becoming more pro-life, which the memo authors called "a factor in the recent losses and one of the blockages for Democrats, at least in the Midwest." READ MEMO HERE: Democratic strategists issue memo on loss of Catholics http://www.cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=36492
It should be noted that the 2004 Catholic vote swing to Bush did not happen in a vacuum. Historically, Catholics voted Democrat dating back to the days when they got off the boats at Ellis Island and were met by Democrat precinct workers who signed up the new immigrants. Candidate Bush made a dedicated effort to get Catholic votes, staking out positions especially appealing to pro-life Catholics, and it worked. And, of course, Jeb Bush converted to Catholicism many years ago, the faith of his Catholic wife Columba.

Agreed, although it is clear that some choose to believe it had no effect. Wishful thinking, in my opinion.

Personally, I'm of the belief that we are actually better served by letting the public see Hollyweird's hatred for Christianity. They really shot themselves in the foot by complaining about "The Passion of the Christ". And they got no traction with "The Last Temptation of Christ". It's not a memorable movie. I think that attempts to censor their crap only publicizes them that much more -- and convinces some people in the middle that Christians are angry and intolerant. Which, of course, isn't really true.
