If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.
We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.
thanks
May the U.S. never have an election this interesing again :) Probably last time US had a 4-way race similar to this was 1860.
Yeah, but it did look nice, didn't it?

Come on Ontario!
Just like Canada itself, the Captain's Quarters blog seems to be overtaxed:
"Warning: main(http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/daybyday_vertical.php): failed to open stream: Connection timed out in /home/cptned/public_html/mt/skins/header1.php on line 192"
Most of the new polls are EXTREMELY early and are only a few votes in...
They're adding results from other parts of Canada now - the polls in all but B.C. are closed.
My guess is this might be the advance poll numbers - don't be surprised to see a rapid Conservative rise, followed by some losses.
I haven't heard anything, but then I haven't been following as closely as I ought!
God, these guys (I assume CBC) on C-SPAN are as bad as the US nets, reporting that so-and-so is leading, when the raw vote totals 10 votes for the district.
Yes, and it looks like Gaspesie has been called for the Bloc...but Mansbridge said that there was a 30-something percent hike in the Tory vote. Incredible!
Global National has declared Conservative minority.
How does this bode for the rest of the country?
I don't think there were exit polls in 2004. Exit polling might even be illegal.
Madawaska-Restigouche is the swing seat...who knew!

Uggh.
Come on Canada!!!
Checking Free Dominion brings back memories of 2000 & 1994.
Whatever you do, don't go to Australia, come to the US!
so what's happening?
It looks like the tory landslide isn't happening.
Oh well.
There goes Alberta!
