We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

The Conservatives have built a base in Quebec and could expand it in the next election. It will be tough to expand too much farther in Ontario. No way they can break into Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa. Giving provinces more power will appeal to Albertans and Quebecers alike.

Forgive me if anything about this has been posted already, but I was struck with Kim Campbell's LACK of visible joy over a Conservative win.
Maybe a Canadian friend can explain. Is she still suffering from sour grape syndrome? Is she so pre-occupied with her European road show that she no longer cares for Canada? I would think that a Conservative former PM of Canada would be ecstatic.

Kim Campbell was an insufferable Red Tory. For someone who achieved the spectacular feat of winning just two seats for her party in 1993, she has no business commenting on politics, period.

I agree 50 to 60 seats is the most the Conservatives can hope for on a good day in Ontario. The big cities are hopeless and there's no point in trying to appeal to their good senses. Decentralization of power is the party's best strategy for expanding and consolidating their rural and suburban gains across Canada.

insufferable Red Tory Like a RINO in the US, then.
It will be interesting to see the level of ambition of Belinda Stronach , speaking of a Red Tory-turned-traitor.

Harper doesn't need to use it. All that's necessary is to hand over responsibilities and resources to the provinces to use as they see fit. That's the meaning to "open federalism." The idea is instead of Ottawa running people's lives, let provinces and the people who live in them decide what's best. Its a revolutionary concept in statist Canada and offers great promise. And no, the Constitution Act doesn't need to be amended to make it happen.

Use the tagline, that is what it is there for.

The one independent is a French-Canadian radio show host in Quebec City who's supposed to be a pretty wild guy. Sorry, I don't know any details of his wildness.

The Cons didn't win a damn thing last night.
The winner was JeanChretien, he got Martin to resign.
I give this government six months.
They could have won a majority if that moron wouldn't have opened his mouth by saying he will be handcuffed by the Leftist Liberal beaucracy, senate and the supreme court.
Harper did what US RINO's do, give up at the first sign of resistance.

"I just admire the people of my native province. They're more true to the ideal of Canada than English Canada will ever be."
Quebecers are the most politically astute Canadians. Too bad the urban liberals aren't the same. I think some of them are so brain-washed they would vote for Goebbels if Hitler was the party leader.
