Canadian General Election, Live Thread (UPDATE: Conservatives Win!)
Elections Canada ^ | N/A

Posted on 01/23/2006 8:03:44 AM PST by GreenLanternCorps

If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.

We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

Surely the liberal Canadian MSM can't be nearly as bad as ours, can it?

www.globeandmail.ca is probably one of the best/worst examples. Then again NYT and Commie News Network are pretty bad too.

Is is too late for Harper to file the paperwork to run for the Republicans in 2008? He is impressive!

Would some of you great folks on FR please check into Free Dominion and lift up these poor souls who see the glass half-empty. I mean, it's a meltdown of DU proportions.

FD: WE LOST

This is only one example...

The French translator on CBC is absolutely atrocious. He may be accurate but completely toneless.

PM-elect is giving a great speech. I liked the fact that he thanked people for their prayers. That's such a rare thing to hear from a politician these days.

But I suspect at least some of the liberal media here in the States have caught on to our joy in watching them going down to defeat, and they're determined to not do anything to help us celebrate. Our local (liberal) city newspaper the morning after the '94 election refused to give us conservatives a headline we could clip & save and stare fondly at for years to come. In fact, they made absolutely no mention on the front page of the great Republican Revolution.

This was the most significant political story in a generation and they refused to print it on the front. The major political story on the front page was devoted to the re-election of Colorado's liberal Dem governor, with smaller articles and photos of local statehouse candidates - of both parties. The only piece of out-of-state news whatsoever on the front page was a photo of Oliver North, whose failed run for a Senate seat in Virginia was cause for much liberal gloating - even though it was the only single race of any consequence they won across the whole country.

Only when you turned to the inside pages did you notice something significant had happened - not in news stories, but in analysis pieces about what changes the new GOP control of Congress might usher in.

Those SOB's!!

The tradition is that when a non-MP is elected as a party leader he runs for Parliament at the first opportunity. For Brian Mulroney and some others, this was accomplished by having a sitting member resign so that the new leader could run in a by-election. Jack Layton of the NDP was the exception, waiting until the next general election to run. We have never had a PM who was not a Member of Parliament.

"The west wanted in. The west is in. Canada will work for all of us!" - PM-elect Stephen Harper

Sweet words to the ears of those of us in western Canada.
This is what we hoped for such a long time.

Balk, I don't know how to explain it but my DH is the same way. He's not even excited that the UK Conservatives are ahead in all polls in the UK (He's a Brit).

Me? I'm American! I'm always happy when the RIGHT wins!!!
