It's the same reason that the United States flag is flown at half-staff for causes not originally part of flag etiquette.

He/she deserves it. Everyone is equal. etc..

It was an honor well deserved by this tragic little girl.

As the priest said yesterday, she is now safe from the evil here on earth.

According to the New York Sun, the honor guard was made up of eight cadets from a group called the Harlem Youth Marines. Their leader, Lt.Col. Greg Collins read about the child's death and volunteered their services.

Why did this young girl have a U.S. Marine honor guard to carry her casket

My guess is that the Harlem Youth Marines are not part of the U.S. Marine honor guard.

It was a nice gesture. So many people failed her in life; I guess they were showing her support in death.

I've said this before: I know the step-father is accused of actually killing her; but the mother should be charged with something even more serious. I hate when the mother gets a lesser sentence, or is charged with a less serious offense.

Even an abused spouse should be accountable. Hedda Nussbaum could have picked up Lisa Steinberg and her son and just walked out. That simple. She didn't. I can't believe how little jail time she got. Even the bastard Joel Steinberg is out now.

I hope Nizmary's "parents" rot in jail for the rest of their miserable lives.

Toys for Tots -
The Marine Corp Reserve has a special warmth for small children.

And every marine would like 5 minutes with the "parents"

My name is William and I am the Executive Officer for the Harlem Youth Marines Inc., the cadet program that provided the honor guard for Nixmary's Funeral. After hearing of what happend, my CO decided that this young girl should have all the honors she deserved. It also touched us because we work with kids, and Its very sad when something like this happens. I have read the blogs, and even though we got some heat for what we did, its good to read that Marines and civilians alike appreciated the gesture. If anyone whats to know more about our program or our accomplishments, all they have to do is google the name "Harlem Youth Marines", and a host of information will come up.

William
