I remember seeing the California Jam on TeeVee. Wasn't Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush part of that?
You may be right, I honestly can't remember all the bands. I know that I've seen Mahogany Rush several times, that may have been one of them. Frank was a great guitarist as well even if he did borrow quite a lot from Hendrix.

I used to love Mahogany Rush-I loved their version of "King Bee"-I'd forgotten about them until a few months ago.

I've read through the thread to this point and NARY a Brian Setzer or a Danny Gatton mention yet.

Unfortunately I never saw ole George, but I heard he used to put on some of the most raucous shows imaginable. Oh, yeah...I might have been deafened, but my wife and I had a hell of a good time!

This is the only really good "artifact" from those ARMS Shows---this dvd-
http://www.geetarz.org/reviews/misc/arms-dvd-2-brazil.htm
I have dvd's of Cow Palace and NYC shows, pro shot, soundboard audio and the video is not perfect.
I also have the LA show you saw and the Dallas show (11-28-83) I have all the ARMS shows played either on video or audio.....
The above is the only one you would probably want, the others are bootlegs and aren't A+ perfect.

He is pretty heavy although he did do a concerto for the electrical guitar.
It's called 'Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra in E Flat Minor Op. 1.
Does a mixture of some of his composition with a little Albinoni thrown in (If you are familiar with the Baroque style of classical music).
If you don't mind heavy stuff (Neoclassical is what they describe Malmsteen) I recommend his first album 'Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force'. 'Far below the Sun' and Icarus' Dream Suite' is my favorite off that album. Most of the album is instrumental though if you don't mind that.
His most "popish" album (Still a little heavy) is probably 'Odyssey' which features Joe Lynn Turner who sang for Rainbow in the early eighties.
I am a Baroque/Classical junkie and also like progressive rock so the heaviness does not bother me.

My fave is Hotel California...
I hate, Hate, HATE that song. The rest of the album is great -- Last Resort, Victim of Love, Pretty Maids all in a Row, Wasted Time...
Hey, why no mention of Mark Farner anywhere here? Closer To Home, Sin's a Good Man's Brother -- and he wrote the book on how to use a guitar on a Marathon Cut!

Very cool! Try "Rattlesnake Guitar" and listen to the tunes played by Rory Gallagher and "Lonesome Dave" Peverette. "Leaving Town Blues" and "Love That Burns" in particular. Some good slide tunes on "Blues for Greeny" by Gary Moore. "Show Biz Blues" from "Then Play On" by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. "Too Much Seconal" by Johnny Winter on "Still Alive and Well".

My brother has the LP-he and I jointly inherited our aunt's album collection when she married, and have a lot of the old Yes,Moody Blues, etc stuff. I'm letting him keep them for now.I love the classic Yes covers-the Roger Dean ones-and the cover of ELP's Brain Salad Surgery by HR Geiger.
