TV fans hit the roof when local newscast begins before show ends
Midlands fans of the FOX show 24 are used to cliffhangers but nothing like what happened during the fifth-season premiere Sunday night.
WACH-TV, Columbias FOX affiliate, cut away from the last 10 minutes of the blockbuster show to start its 10 p.m. newscast leaving fans in the Midlands hanging.
Somebody has lost their mind, said Steve Arnold, a fan who was watching the show at his Irmo home.
FOX has been promoting the shows two-part, two-hour season premiere for weeks. It was scheduled to start at 8 p.m., after the conclusion of the NFL playoff game between the Carolina Panthers and the Chicago Bears.
The game went long, pushing the start of 24 back about 10 minutes and ideally pushing back the start of the newscast.
WACH has a contract with WIS-TV, which produces WACH news programs, to broadcast its news at 10 p.m. If, for some reason, WACH has to delay broadcast, the station can record the newscast and air it later.

$20 and I'll tell you what you missed.
I held my breath at 10, figuring the idiots who run my local affiliate would do the same thing. Luckily, they managed not to screw it up. (And just as an aside, you figure the good folks at CTU would learn to trust the guy who has saved the country 3 times now, but that's gov't employees for ya.)
Charleston's FOX affiliate didn't have a problem. The news just started late.
Clearly these people have a severely over-high opinion of the worth of local TV news.
While I completely disagree with him politically, this quote attributed to Garrison Keillor nails it:
"If you get all your information from local TV news, you end up knowing less than if you just stayed home on the couch and drank gin from the bottle."
I think they are going to catch alot of flack for that......probably re-run it.
My daughter used to work for WACH-TV...will send her a copy of this (reminds me of the "Heidi Bowl"...but that was CBS nationwide).
Especially in a small state capitol like Columbia.
We watched the whole thing. Clever way to bring Jack "back from the dead."
My husband was disappointed they killed off the ex-Prez, but I understand why...he has to continue making those State Farm commercials and wouldn't have time to work on the series. (end/sarcasm)
If anyone wants to post a comment to this....just "send it to my screen," LOL.
"You stay classy Columbia...and go &*%! yourselves."
are you sure 'Heidi' wasn't scheduled for 10PM???
8 a.m. -- Jack Bauer is told that terrorists have a nuclear weapon and we need to listen in on their phone conversations to see where and when it will be set off.
8:30 a.m. -- Jack arrives at the office of the FISA judge to ask for the warrant to listen in on the phone call.
8:35 a.m. to the following day at 7:58 a.m. -- Jack sits in the waiting room, watching soaps, napping and reading issues of National Geographic and Highlights from 1986.
7:59 a.m. -- The secretary finally hands him the warrant to listen in on the phone calls.
7:59:59 a.m. -- Mushroom cloud. The End.
This is unacceptable, our very way fo life is threatened, congress should call for a special prosecutor, the Senate Committee on Television News Intelligence should immediately begin hearings.
This is a new low even for Democrats, don't they know that the producers of 24 have killed thousands of fantasy actors every season what makes them think that knocking off a local news station will be any problem.
I pitty the news industry - I can see it now: (24 episode 6) "The death of the American News Media" - President Palmer is brought back to life and seeks revenege on the News Media. Teaming with Agent Bower (who has recently gone through a painful sex change to fullfill his last mission - episode 5 ending) a now nutless Jack Bower weds reborn president Palmer as they set out to destroy infected news station across the country - minute by minute hour by hour. (sarc off)
I have been feeling this rage build all season. They keep showing Bradshaw and the boys after the game and it cuts into The Simpsons every week. I knew it was only a matter of time before it came to this. Not that it matters but what is "24"??
A bigger ego and a smaller IQ go hand-in-hand in local newsrooms. I've worked in enough to know it well.
(Not that it matters but what is "24"??)
I can't tell you it's a secret - National security thing.
Are the Simpsons your neighbors? How long have you been watching them?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Each week a docudrama illustrating what would happen if a particular liberal idea were carried out.
Socialists suck.
