PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President arrived back at the White House from Camp David this afternoon, as his wife and daughter arrived safely in Ghana on their first leg of a visit to Africa. Along with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on Monday they will head the official delegation to the inauguration of Liberia's first woman president.
In Texas, the President's father, former President GHW Bush, was on hand to christen the USS San Antonio, the first in the Navy's new class of amphibious landing ships. The former president was the keynote speaker.
Navy Commissions USS San Antonio Former President George H.W. Bush delivered the keynote address as the U.S. Navy commissioned the USS San Antonio at Naval Station Ingleside.The San Antonio is the lead ship in the Navy’s new LPD 17 class, which will eventually replace three classes of amphibious vessels that are aging.
The former president was among more than 6,000 people Sunday at Naval Station Ingleside today who watched the USS San Antonio go into service.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, was also on hand for the commissioning ceremony of the $1.7 billion warship.
The San Antonio is the first of the Navy's new class of amphibious landing ships.
It has a crew of 360 sailors and can haul up to 800 Marines and their equipment.
The San Antonio also has two surgical theaters, a 24-bed infirmary and other medical facilities.
The ship must now go through a few years of training before it's deployed in 2008.

I would have hated it as a teenager to have had my father be president, and the constant snapping of pictures would be only one of the reasons. Every little misstep I made would be brought out, and I've had my share.
