Harry Belafonte will be the guest speaker at Duke University tommorow for a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr celebration.
Ok,I dont know every thing about Dr. King~ But this I beleive: He would not appreciate every militant leftist piggy backing onto to his death. I plan to write an email to and call Duke University to let them know how I view their name after hosting this leftist, Duke makes me Puke.
The left would embrace Hitler. I have no doubt about it. Sad, isn't it?
We no longer have a George Washington day, a Abe Lincoln day, a Jefferson,a Franklin,a Eisenhower,Patton or McArthur day or even an FDR day or a John C. Garand day.
So why do we have a MLK day?...not because we soley judge a man by the content of his character as much as we do the color of his skin...
And that is kind of ironic all things considered
imo
What a laugh!
I wish Anne Coulter would appear as his follow up speaker!
Thank you !
MLK cheated on his dissertation and cheated on his wife. He was shown repeatedly not to be an honorable person. There are so many other black people who could and should be recognized.
I suspect he became an icon because Malcolm X scared the establishment and they needed an alternative.
For every Jessie Jackson, Marion Barry and MLK there are many black heroes who go unrecognized.
MLK, Jr was a Christian Republican. He would probably agree that Muslim and Atheist liberals were maligning him and everything for which he stood.
Really? I knew about the affair, but I've never heard about the dissertation plagiarism. Who did he plagiarize?
And a Commie. Don't forget that part.
Why we have a day celebrating an unoriginal Communist is beyond me.
But then, I guess I shouldn't complain, since I do get the day off (for the first time ever, and likely the last). I plan to commemorate the occasion by sleeping in, FReeping, needlepointing, playing City of Heroes, and drinking beer.
According to the FBI there were many many affairs.
MLK did his dissertation at Boston University. Years later, in the 90's I think, it was discovered that a lot of his dissertation had been plagiarized. I don't remember who discovered it but it was well publicized. It might have been someone from California.
Boston University had a Martin Luther King Writing Center at the time for students who were having trouble writing in their English composition courses. They soon changed the name of the writing center.
I'll look for more info about the plagiarism.
Gosh. I'm almost sorry I googled it.
It turns out the night before MLK died he was with three women.
Apparently about half of his dissertation was plagiarized as were the papers he submitted as an undergraduate.
There are so many good and talented blacks who are so much more deserving that MLK. It's a shame.
Enjoy the day!
I plan to do all of the above plus surfing ebay!
I am not completely sold on the necessity of a whole day devoted to Dr. King, mind you, but he did make positive contributions to Freedom and to our country, and IMO that is pretty cool.
Philosophically, this creates a dilemma. Was he a good man who sinned, or was he evil? He bore false witness and commited adultery--two major sins.
Anyone who pretends to be something he is not, just to manipulate the system or his environment, is evil. He did some great things, but at what cost? Somehow the SCLC has laid the foundation for communism (the government should replace God and provide for the welfare of individuals), despite King's claims to the contrary.
My gut feeling has always been that MLK,Jr was doing God's work; that his path was preordained. The fact that he lied, plagiarized and cheated is very disappointing, and it's difficult to reconcile the two things.
You are both seemingly without understanding.
I guess that neither of you grew up in the hood.
Your posts on this thread are shameless, and likely nobody else is ever going to point that out to you.
I am positive that some of the people who surrounded MLK were not noble people. I bet you anything there was jealously, lies, manipulations and people full of contradictions and bad motives, who followed him around~ esp. when he hit celebrity.
I have no doubt that Dr. King knew he was going to die for making his stand- and he still made his stand and he was murdered. That tells me something.
Most likely he was communicating over most peoples heads, including people in his own community- so he was hated and maligned- and by some people who had the same color skin as he had and for many sick reasons, at that. For those reasons I am leery to believe all of the tales of terrible behavior on his part.
I am not so sure that he is guilty of many of the things he is accused of.
No matter what, I am glad that I live in a country where people have equal oppurtunties-do the ends justify the means? I think on rare occasions they do. That could be Gods way as well, perhaps the message is not yet complete.
We will never know the whole story- and that is why I feel it is best to let God have it all.
MLK was not a saint, that we know for sure. I just choose to appreciate the good work that he did and I teach my children about MLKs amazing ability to motivate people~ Now that cat was an activist! :]
Truth is shameless?
The man was a serial adulterer who was with three women the night before he died.
He was a proponent of Communism, if government files are to be believed.
He had a history of appropriating others' written words.
Ugly facts.
