I'm glad, but he has to. Or he risks looking stupid as Alito came off as a super duper competent and non ideological judge ;-)

There has been nothing extraordinary that has happened in the hearings so Leahy's earlier caveat is non-operable.

Leahy can't make promises for anybody but Leahy. It'll be a different DEM who demands the delay. If that happens, the delay will occur because the rules provide for it as a matter of right.

Leahy wants to spend more time at his Farmhouse then doing his job huh?

I wish the good people of Vermont would grant his request and send him home permanently when that time comes. Then he can sit under his apple trees and rub elbows with Vermont Quakers.

Cry me a river Specter! Miers was not the right choice. The people are allowed to speak as well and they did. She resigned.

He didn't think voting Bork down was any big deal.

So, Snarlin' Arlen says Harriet Myers was "run out of town on a rail" by the radio talk show hosts, rather than given a fair hearing in The committee!!??

Unbelieveable...

Hearing set for 17th...but, Leahy said that "we will talk over the weekend"...then proceeded to blame Frist for changing the scheduling every day?

Puh...leeze...that is NOT going to fly, but you watch, the dems will get their way...they always do on these things..

Actually, Roberts was withdrawn for the O'Conner seat, and then nominated for the Rehnquist seat.

Then Bush refused to nominate a replacement for O'Conner until after the Roberts nomination was completed.

Then he waited a couple of weeks, and then nominated Miers.

That went for a while, then she withdrew in no small part because Specter/Leahy held a joint press conference where they essentially called her unqualified and sent her questionare back to her for a re-do, the first time they said that that had ever happened.

Then he nominated Alito, but he took some time for that as well.

Specter just complained that the committee didn't get to shoot down Miers (he didn't say it that way, he said she was taken out by talk shows, instead of by the committee).

Specter doing a fair job of summarizing specific points of Alito's testimony.
