Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.
WEDS., 9:30AM ET, C-SPAN
It has to be corrected by someone at the hearings themselves, so that it's on Fox and CSpan.
Specter showed some real (and unusual) strength today. I have some hope that he just may set the record straight.
Filthy swine is as bad as my Baptist upbringing lets me go. :)
The poster mixed up Brownbach and Feingold. Feingold was very hostile to Alito. Alito will be moved out of committee on a party line vote (well I don't know about Kohl).
I'm curious to see how they will handle this. While Mrs. Alito's tears were new, the Democrats behavior not only isn't new, it's not even been as bad as what they have done to other Bush nominees. I think Alito's intelligence and record haven't given them the opportunity to go as low as they have gone in the last few years.
My Philly upbringing could let me say something
But Jim has rules around here ;0)
It just shows how lax the media is, how irresponsible. (The incident in W. Va. is what I'm referring to)
It's their JOB (supposedly) to resource and confirm what they say, especially in a situation such as the mine explosion. But they don't care about anything but getting the scoop.
Specter's running of the committee has been very impressive in all of these hearings. He is doing an excellent job. I don't agree with those that trash him. Yes, he was unfortunate in the Bork hearings. That was a long time ago.
I think it's gin!
I guess this is what you get when you are a "shoe-in" every six years!
```But what they want to do if they can't win is show the country what Democrats stand for. ```
well, they have accomplished that, haven't they?
This is Specter's Last Hurrah. I think he is executing his chairmanship of this committee with exceeding grace and humor. I actually like him this week, although I've never voted for him.
I have surprising news...
I just turned on Nightline...and they reported it the right way..and that was Terry Moran!!!
They might want to notify their radio news division though.
I tell you one thing that the dems will be happy about...even if they don't keep Alito off the bench...they will scare a lot of nominees...should Bush get another opening...out of wanting to subject themselves and their families through this...
SO...it could be Mission Accomplished as far as Soros and gang are concerned.
Suffice it to say that we both know what these people are, and it ain't pretty.
It's whiskey or brandy or rum. It's also hilarious. rewindrewindrewind. LOL!
It made me long for the days when Senators used to jump over the tables and slug each other.
I wouldn't have minded seeing Kennedy and Biden getting decked.......
Sincere sympathy reflects our pain back to us. We see part of what we feel in the other person's face, and hear it in their voice. It's like taking a bandage off a still-raw wound.
Defiance, anger, stoicism, even frustration are emotional bandages.
Which is why I thought he suffered from schizophrenia if he announced plans to vote for Alito. Thanks for the clarification.
I completely agree. He has been admirable.
Palladin, I know that you are a man of prayer.
I have asked for a call to prayer that the demonic that we have witnessed in these hearings would be defeated by the power of the Lord through the prayers of His people.
Would you join me to that end, sir?
He better...because if he doesn't...all of the authority, which he has used to keep the hearing from getting totally out of hand...will be gone!
I wish we could get an address for the Alitos...I would love to send Mrs. Alito some flowers...bless her heart.
I really didn't "get" how upsetting it was for her...until I watched some of the replay...and I think it is because I am a regular Senate watcher....
As a regular Senate observer...I think I have become so used to the outrageous remarks of Kennedy, Durbin, and Schumer...that I didn't realize how hard for her this was.
