Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.

The way Kennedy was carrying on, I wondered if they didn't already have something in mind, but he may have been wanting to hype the "necessity" to go through those papers as a delaying tactic.
McCain's ego is so large that it has its very own satellite revolving around it.
You Got That Right!!!
I KNOW you can make a LOT of money as a professional Bass fisherman...
MY DIL's father does it on the weekends...he is a building contractor ..but, he wants to retire early, and do what you are doing...fishing for living...(that sounds like a song title)!
You see that on a lot of bumper stickers in Midwood, Bklyn.
What was worse...later in the show...he had on Jeff Greenfield to talk about today's hearings, and Greenfield did NOT correct the mistake...
BTW, Tony Snow might not like this...but the FOX station here that carries Tony's show...was reporting it the SAME WAY....that Lindsay Graham's questioning caused Mrs. Alito to start crying and leave the hearing..
I wonder if Graham is going to demand they change their stories!!
Sepent Dove (on another thread) said KSKY 660 in Dallas reported it the same way, and that she sent a letter to management.
I have a feeling Graham isn't gonna take this BS from them
That's one of the more outrageous distortions CNN has ever tried to pull. What the heck kind of stunt is that? Should we freep them or is it useless?
Watching the replay. Alito is both brilliant and a regular guy. I like him, a lot.
My name is Txsleuth and I watched CNN....I am SO ashamed.
Seriesly, I KNEW that I didn't want to watch Greta tonight, because I was already upset by the ABC Radio News that was reporting it as Graham's fault...
SO...I just wanted to see how the "enemy" was reporting it...and voila, that is what I saw.
BTW..They are also reporting that the justice department is only looking at 2 congresscritters re: Abramoff...Rep. Ney and one other REPUBLICAN...no mention of any dems like Dorgan and Reid like the Washington Times reported.
Ignore them .. tell the papers, radio, and blogger
I think Sam Alito has outshined John Roberts. He has not dodged questions like Roberts did. He has been totally forthcoming. I think Bush should have nominated him for Chief Justice. It's said he is the most experienced jurist to be nominated to the SCOTUS in 70 years.
Review of Rusher CAP Records [Ed Whelan 01/11 10:01 PM]
I have been informed by a very reliable source that Senate Judiciary Committee staffers have reviewed the entirety of William Rusher's CAP documents at the Library of Congress and have determined that those documents make no mention at all of Alito.
This should be no surprise, as New York Times reporter David Kirkpatrick reviewed the same documents in late November 2005 and made the same determination.
I think we should...but, like you...I can't understand how CNN thinks they can get away with this...
AFTER ALL, this was televised...and the tape of this has been played over and over...and in the REAL sequence on other stations.
If nothing else, we KNOW that Brit will have it in the Grapevine tomorrow night..however, I think Lindsay Graham needs to address this IN SESSION tomorrow morning.
He should tell Specter before the hearing about these bogus news accounts...and the only way that he will be SURE that Americans get the real story...will to be to set the record straight right then..
I agree with you. And I say that as somebody who thinks all federal judges should be required to answer every question asked on cases already decided. Alito is very, very good and very, very principled. No back down, he is what he is. He may or may not know it but from where I sit he is a man's man.
Why hasn't anyone begun to question the power of Indian "gaming" interests-including the team of lobbyists, lawyers, and considerably more shady, illegal partners, which serve as advocates for these sovereign casinos-and ask why they are exempt from government oversight?
I can understand the reluctance of politicians-who are bought and paid for, and who've seen the damage these groups can inflict, e.g. the defeat of Slade Gorton, on people who get in their way-but why is the media almost uniformly ignoring this aspect of the story?
I agree....I hope they keep reporting it that way...at least until tomorrow..
I wonder if Mrs. Alito MIGHT want to be the one to tell everyone WHY she teared up...and it certainly wasn't Lindsay's fault...(I hope).
The news is saying that Bush has changed his mind about not wanting congressional hearings into the NRA wiretapping...he is now saying that it will be a good thing for America to find out exactly what the facts are...
BOY,....HE IS FEELING HIS CHEERIOS..ISN'T HE....LOL
Saw that lying piece of "reportage." The slant just gets slantier ! / / / / /
