Day 3: Questioning Continues
This morning, Round 1 concludes with Senators on the Judiciary Cmte. who did not question nominee Alito yesterday. During Round 2, questioning is limited to 20 minutes for each of the eight- een senators. Chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) leads off, followed by the others, alternating by party in order of seniority.

Yet something keeps them around... something inside them yearns for the truth. Sure they can't understand it or know what it is, but they yearn for it. Conversion is near...
Oh, it was just Uncle Teddy getting his panties in a wad over a Princeton org that Alito claimed he didn't remember anything about but Teddy wouldn't let it go. Someone (Specter?) said something about beating a dead horse. Then Teddy got hyper and wanted to get a court order to bring in some paper that some unknown person from this org that might have said something racist. Teddy said he sent a letter to Specter and wanted to argue when Specter said he hadn't gotten it - "I KNOW you got it!" Specter shut him up and aide went running out after telling the swimmer there's a difference between sending and recieving a letter and not to tell him what he recieved or not. I don't think Teddy's made it back from his 14 martini lunch.
You've been around long enough to know FR has calmed down considerably. When W was planning to run for president, I supported him...and got sooo flamed by lots of FReepers (who've mostly been banned now)... I learned to tread very softly in those days.
dang....missed it. Had to deal with college son- money-classes- money- books- money stuff....
WONDERFUL answer ... "how do you explain an un-elected body making law"...
He is very clear on not legislating from the bench...
Teddy is back finally? I can't see the tv much from the keyboard. He was all puffed out and red in the face before lunch.
I was replying to a post that Cboldt posted...that said that even thought Kennedy was told BEFORE they returned from lunch break..that there is nothing in the papers that he is trying to subpoena, to use against Alito...
he is STILL wanting to have them, and making a big who-ha about it.
IOW...even in this instance, he couldn't take the high road, and say "never mind" to what he requested before lunch.
It makes you wonder, doesn't it? If they turn the pumps off, New Orleans fills up with water. Is there anywhere else in the country where anybody is allowed to pump all the water out of a wetland and build houses?
In Virginia, we are fighting over a law which is now being interpreted as calling drainage ditches through people's yards tributaries of the Chesapeake, which means people can't fertilize their yards or build a deck or put up a shed without approval.
I love Sessions! He's super!
Did he leave it in the cloakroom with the hatcheck girl or what? ; )
Huh? Did Specter just say we will now take our break UNTIL 4 o'clock? It's 4:05 now!!
So do they really mean 5?
LOL! Of drinks!!! Oh, you are too funny!
Yep. Who will be the first to the microphone? Will it be the satyrmediac Schumer or Teddy?
Agreed! I was being sarcastic in calling him a "greenie".
Four-Twenty.
3:05 here
He does raise a point oft overlooked, and that is the power of Congress over the Courts. Most people take the "seated for life" and "beyond the reach of Congress" and "Court has the final say" memes a bit too literaly.
Kennedy is standing around looking befuddled.
Saw Ashcroft on tv couple nights ago and I doubt he has looked or sounded any better in his life.....well, ok since I've "known" him anyway. FOX needs to bring him in as a regular commentator and junk oh whatshisname - the military guy who wanted to be president (when cows fly)
Brit is talking about the Rusher thing now. He says that, if you are going to say something in the hearings, it better be right. It's the new media, folks.
