Need t o bring back that good old VEGA! Now there was a car you could crash into a tree and not feel any remorse.

Good. Increases my chances of survival when one of them scooters hits my SUV.

Me too!  And I wouldn't own a "small car" today for no amount of money.  I will pay the high gas prices just to remain safe inside my SUV!

Almost time to tax the drivers using the roads by the mile.

Liberals love the feel good environmental activist point of view. Wow, we killed the SUV! Hurray!

Instead of drilling for domestic oil they want us to use less oil. I guess they're worried about China's economy.

Some people just don't consider that saving a few dollars in gas is worth the increased risk of killing their family.

Wonder where conservatives get their whole "evil" stereotype from?

Actually, these cars were manufactured by businesses making business decisions. Government and liberals had nothing to do with it. Unless you know something I don't?

"They are still incapable of safe and convenient portage of 4X8 sheets of plywood and other lumber. They cannot transport a family of four and their camping equipment at all, let alone comfortably."

Lets be honest though. Not everybody needs to haul 4X8 sheets, lots of people, and lumber all the time. You obviously do not buy a Civic if you work on a farm or are a tradesman. For a second car, for a commuter car, for a student, or for someone living in a big city where parking is impossible and insurance is sky high having something like a Civic makes more sense.

I have a big suv because of the large animals roaming here, I won't be switching to a small car.

"For someone who drives to work 5 miles a day, I don't have a lot of use in bringing 2 tons with me each way. I just a car that's reliable and has air conditioning and can fit me and some luggage."

Count me in. I dont know about one of those itsy bitsy cars, but in a compact car I'd have no problem. Lots of nice midsize cars (Altima, Accord) too. No need to lug around 4000 lbs everywhere I go.

An upside to these smaller cars is improved handling, especially if you equip them right. Makes accident avoidance easier.

Just amazing. The same people who would stand outside an abortion clinic and protest are giggling about crushing and killing people with their SUV.

I'm disgusted.

The good news is that the U.S. automakers are finally beginning to move away from the old pension plans and are switching to the 401(k) like everyone else in America already has. The pension programs are a big reason why we have so much trouble selling at competitive prices.

Same with my gas guzzling V8 Z28. I make enough, I can pay 10 bucks a gallon and not complain.

They are still incapable of safe and convenient portage of 4X8 sheets of plywood and other lumber. They cannot transport a family of four and their camping equipment at all, let alone comfortably. If we assume that we must become a Nation of do-nothing couch potatoes, then these small cars are great. Anyone with any imagination at all can't use them.

Right, city people can debate the greatness of little cars in getting around town all day long. I'd have to agree with them on that. But in my real life I still have to pull a horse trailer with it. ;~D
