Creationists say fossil discoveries back their theories
THE ORLANDO SENTINEL ^ | Jan. 07, 2006 | Jim Stratton

Posted on 01/08/2006 2:56:32 PM PST by Dichroic

Most paleontologists look into the mouth of an allosaurus and see a prehistoric eating machine with a jaw full of flesh-tearing teeth.

Peter DeRosa peers into that mouth and sees the hand of God.

Working from a business park about 80 miles north of Tampa, Fla., DeRosa and his family are hammering away at two bedrock principles of modern science: evolution and the notion that Earth is about 4 billion years old.

The DeRosas are part of a small but growing band of creationists using dinosaurs - the icons of an ancient Earth - to argue that the world is only 6,000 years old. The DeRosas' tool of choice? The fossilized bones of Ebenezer the allosaurus and other creatures cramming their makeshift laboratory.

"It's very clear in Scripture. God's word is true," said DeRosa, 22.

"Everything we've found supports that." The DeRosas run Creation Expeditions, a ministry that relies on dinosaurs to spread what they say is the infallible word of the Bible.

The family operation includes Peter, his brother Mark, sister Leah, and parents Pete and Linda.

The DeRosas have no formal training but have studied dinosaurs and fossils for more than a decade. .......... The DeRosas' digs have produced impressive results. They have uncovered a 22-foot-long allosaurus - a smaller relative of the T. rex - and a 15-foot-tall edmontosaurus, a plant-eating, duck-billed dinosaur.

The DeRosas and their movement, in essence, are trying to turn science against itself.

By digging up fossils and interpreting their finds, some creationists hope to convince others that evolution and a 4-billion-year-old Earth are nonsensical notions unsupported by the data.

They maintain, for example, that they've found organic plant matter buried with fossils indicating the animals died only a few thousand years ago.

Did I read it?

DUH!

I was pointing out the C side ain't the ONLY ones who 'charge' to dig in the dirt!

"Well, Nightdriver; you've not responded to any requests for chapter and verse of what you claim..."

Sorry, Elsie, I didn't know you had requested.

You are right, I didn't, but all THESE guys did...

Really? Could you give the chapter and verse on that one?

And that would be?

Now I'm curious. It would be most helpful if you would provide a chapter/verse reference as a means for those of us less skilled in Biblical research to verify your assertion...

Could you please expound scripturally on "even though he became extinct and left no progeny,"?

I see your issue of ONE MAN, and I will have to spend some time digesting it.
The issue that I noticed was a blurb in one of the prophets.
Please read it and tell me what you think.

Look at Jeremiah, chapter 4, starting at about verse 23:

"I beheld the Earth, and, lo, it was without form and void…"

So the question is, of course, just when in time was the prophet looking? It couldn't have been in his present time, because the Earth was not "without form and void" as he looked out over it. Also it couldn't have been at any time from Adam until his present time, because nothing like that happened in the record. It had to have been contemporary with the space between Gen. 1:1 and Gen. 1.2. That's the only time, that we know of, when the Earth was in that condition. Reading on:

v. 25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man….." There evidently had been, but he was now gone.

v. 26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down AT THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD, AND BY HIS FIERCE ANGER.

Nowhere from Adam to Jeremiah's time did the Lord come down and personally wipe out a population and his cities. Reading on:

v.27 For thus hath the Lord said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.

So the prophet could not have been looking into the future, because in the future the Lord DOES make a full end as is written in Isaiah 34:4, 2 Peter 3:10, Revelation 21:1, and others.
A bit more modern translation says...

 23.  I looked at the earth, and it was formless and empty; and at the heavens, and their light was gone.
 24.  I looked at the mountains, and they were quaking; all the hills were swaying.
 25.  I looked, and there were no people; every bird in the sky had flown away.
 26.  I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert; all its towns lay in ruins before the LORD, before his fierce anger.
 27.  This is what the LORD says: "The whole land will be ruined, though I will not destroy it completely.

So it appears it will be a FUTURE time, just like the other verses you point out.

So, the Christian does not have to be threatened in his Biblical belief when the Leakys dig a skull out of the Olduvai (sp?) valley and say it is so many thousands or millions of years old. The Bible alludes to the fact that men were walking the earth long before Adam. Maybe even several many populations, in fact. They are gone, now, and they did not evolve into us, but we do know Who created them.

I could be all wet, but this is what the Bible says.

I still see no allusion to what you say is in the Bible.

Evolutionists claim that the first cell formed from simple chemicals.

This isn't a claim of biologists. This is a creationist strawman.

Biologists claim that cells formed from unknown self-replicating molecules and cell-like structures.

The C side is the ONLY one that is charging for the priviledge of digging in the dirt alongside totally ignorant, unqualified people, however. At least the Gov digs have people that at least know something about what they are doing. The people in this article are admittedly ignorant. Why anybody would pay to have somebody explain something when those somebodies themselves admit that they don't know anything about it is beyond me.

It is the intentionally ignorant teaching the intentionally ignorant how to be intentionally ignorant. Like I said earlier, there is a sucker born every minute. This couple has figured out how to make a living teaching something that they do not know to people who want to know as little as they do. That is what I am laughing about.

Hi Elsie!

I would call it informed speculation.

Now that it's starting to look like precursor organic molecules are created in space rather than on planets, I'm not sure many scientists have much faith in origin of life speculations.

Does anyone know what the age of a freshly created piece of matter dates at, with our modern dating methods? When we can create matter out of nothing, we may be able to comment with authority.

I like that. That's a keeper.

"They charge $500 per person for five-day excavations. They also take in contributions from religious groups and other sponsors"

All I needed to hear. This has nothing to do with religion, but $$$$$$

People preying on others religious convictions for cash. Sad, but happens daily.

Translation: New evidence of previously unknown PANH's leads to new hypotheses.

Again, for the lurkers, the idea that life evolved out of nothing belongs to ID. It's not a theory that biologists subscribe to.

You would think I would learn to never post of these type threads...

There are people who believe only in the Bible... (i.e. creation)

There are people who believe only in science... (i.e. evolution)

All I am saying is that there are people who can believe in evolution without giving up their belief in God.

I am just fed up with those who won't accept any deviation from their point of view on either side.

My head is blooded from beating it against both walls, but not unbowed...

Yet, this will be my very last statement on these type threads.

I can only expect you on both sides to take the disagreement to a high court and find out the truth when and if you make it to the Pearly Gates!

Yes, for the lurkers (just like their 'for the children') that the evos think are stupid gullible jerks, If they didn't come from nothing, what did PANHs come from?

This just another Roswell/Sedona/Area 51 class ruse to cover for the fact that the church of evolution has a vaporous doctrine.

The lurkers are too smart for you; they see that this is just more PC Dung.

Too bad you don't have a computer with Internet access. You could just look it up if you were really interested.
