(Vanity) FreeRepublic Folding@Home Project Update (Top 1,000! - WooHoo!!)
systematic ^ | 12-29-2005 | systematic

OK, new thread to celebrate reaching a major milestone! Within a few hours Team FreeRepublic will be in the Top1000!!!!

We should pass Dean for America, around noon tommorrow. Other liberal teams want to challenge us (DUmmies and Kos) but we're humiliating them beyond description.

My son isn't a FR member, but we just installed it on his computer and I put him on our team. He's crunching his first assignment now.

It's only fair...I let him use my networked cable modem for free.

I have read the posts and still have absolutely no idea what this thread is about but if you are kicking commie butt at DU I am behind you all the way!

Just download a small software from http://folding.stanford.edu/ and you'll find out :)

You were right, it is on 6/500 now and the WU estimate is down to 1 day, 20 hours.

Sigh! I am in awe of the crying baby seal, I think it is really hilarious and distinctive. I'm sad to see other people eager to replace it. Keep it!! Make it bigger!

That's ok... over there, they're puzzled by the fact that we grumpy old conservatives 1) have computers... 2) know how to use them... 3) know about the project ... 4) we're kicking their silly behinds, when it comes to folding proteins.

Basically, all this program entails, is a donation of your spare computer computational time, when it's sitting idle. You download a small program from Stanford, and it in turn downloads your homework. In between your bits and bytes, flips and flops, it uses the extra brainpower of your computer, to crunch numbers. When your homework is complete, it uploads it to Stanford, and you're given points. Stanford wisely decided, that they were going to make this a "competitive" affair, where teams could compete against each other, instead of just appealing to purely the interests of science. Yeah, we're folding proteins in the interest of mankind, but we're smoking out way to the top, waving the FR banner...

Anyone wanna think that all the individual contributors don't make a difference, FR folders just had a 3000 point update, which means that we're cranking out 1000 points per hour, if we can keep this average up.

Me... I registered a measly 10 pointer *sigh* but wait till tommorrow :)

My download is complete, but, I didn't see where I was to type in the number--36120, it just asked for user name. What did I do wrong?

Copied from previous page:

Right click on the Red O that's down in your system tray, and select configure. Team number should be right about the center of the dialogue box that pops up. Just type in 36120, and hit ok, and when your job completes, it'll credit to you, and the FR team.

One more question---what's a 'system tray'?

Wow - we're really smoking, now! 98 members now, who knows how many more are working on their first WU's!

I, sadly, probably won't be contributing any points before Jan 1st as I'm working on one that's 3750 frames, and it's due to end Jan 2nd. Hopefully that will adjust again, and pick up some speed.

I seem to be sliding backwards in the stats darnit! I've dropped 10 spaces or something. Wah! ;)
