Saudi prince donates millions to universities for study of Islam

WASHINGTON - A prominent Saudi businessman said Monday that he is donating $20 million each to Georgetown and Harvard universities for the study of Islam and the Muslim world as part of his philanthropic efforts to promote interfaith understanding. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, a member of the Saudi royal family, said in a telephone interview from the Saudi capital of Riyadh that he also has donated $15 million to establish the Middle East's first two centers for American studies, at universities in Beirut and Cairo. ``As you know, since the 9/11 events, the image of Islam has been tarnished in the West,'' said Alwaleed, who is chairman of the Riyadh-based Kingdom Holding Co. and has extensive business holdings in Europe and the United States. He said his gifts to Georgetown and Harvard will be used ``to teach about the Islamic world to the United States,'' and the new programs at American University in Beirut and American University in Cairo will ``teach the Arab world about the American situation.'' The $20 million gift to Georgetown is the second-largest ever received by the Jesuit-run university, school officials said. ``We are deeply honored by Prince Alwaleed's generosity,'' said a statement from Georgetown President John DeGioia, who met Alwaleed on Nov. 7 in a Paris hotel to sign documents formalizing the donation. Alwaleed, a grandson of the Saudi kingdom's founder, King Abdel Aziz, tried to give $10 million to the Twin Towers Fund shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 2001. But then-New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani rejected the donation after the prince said in a news release that the United States needed to ``re-examine its policies in the Middle East and adopt a more balanced stance towards the Palestinian cause.'' Asked about the controversy over his New York gift, Alwaleed replied that ``this is behind us and now we are working for the present and the future. . . . My love and admiration to the United States was never diminished.''

A prominent Saudi businessman said Monday that he is donating $20 million each to Georgetown and Harvard universities for the study of Islam and the Muslim world as part of his philanthropic subversive efforts to promote interfaith understanding terrorism, moral rot, and the narcissistic personality disorder that all "good" muslims have.

There, fixed it.

"A prominent Saudi businessman said Monday that he is donating $20 million each to Georgetown and Harvard universities for the study of Islam and the Muslim world as part of his philanthropic efforts to promote interfaith understanding."

Read this as "...to promote Islamic proselytization."

You just gott'a know that there are many gullible goobers at Georgetown and Harvard who, while eschewing Christianity, will buy into the Islam thing lock, stock and barrel. I have a great deal of faith in the performance of these idiots.

This means they will have to hire experts---Read Mullahs
These experts will have to go before students and explain their views----Read brainwash students.
These experts will probably come from Saudi Arabia----Read Muhammed Atta clones.

Isn't Georgetown a Catholic university? Can they not say NO to Islamic money?

It is CINO - Catholic In Name Only. Very leftist. They had a liberation theologist priest (marxist) teaching there. My commencement speaker was Patrick Leahy (hurl).

Next Step, donating money for mosques so the liberal disintelligensia will have places to practise their newly studied submission to Allah. Madrassas will form as in Europe after that, and our laws concerning freedom of religion will allow it to happen. Then there will be linkage between a new class of elite, educated Muslims and the Muslim communities ( Remember Malcolm X?) in the USA. This gift will lead to massive social unrest in the USA, only a matter of time. Also there are educational visas available in the year 2006 for 10,000 Saudi Arabian students to study in the USA, as announced by the dept. of state. The liberal elite who study at Georgetown and Harvard have obvious social identity problems as it is, and the study and practise of Islam will fill that social need. We will have the beginnings of a new religious block of voters in the USA, ready to take on the "religious right." Liberal wingnuts already have sold out their country here and now , having lost the Iraq battle with Bush, now will move to make fundamental changes in our government through the exercise of religion and the judiciary? Well , we can always send our cultural icons to defeat them: Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I'm quite tired of the word 'events' used in this context. I don't recall any 'events' on Sept 11th, but I do recall mass slaughter and destruction.

40 Million would be best donated to his own country to teach about America and what we stand for. Needless to say, he would never consider it because they are at war with us.

``We are deeply honored by Prince Alwaleed's generosity,'' said a statement from Georgetown President John DeGioia, who met Alwaleed on Nov. 7 in a Paris hotel to sign documents formalizing the donation.

I had several conversations with Mr. DeGioia in 1993-1994, albeit when he was in a different capacity altogether.
Hard to belive that this is the same person. But then, it was not too long after that that the Vagina Monologues were a source of extreme friction at the Jesuit University.

Hmmmmmm. OK.

``to teach about the Islamic world to the United States,''
And...
will ``teach the Arab world about the American situation.''
Anyone else notice the careful choice of words and phrasing? Unfamiliarity with the language is the furthest thing this guy suffers from. Can't accuse him of failing to be up-front!

``As you know, since the 9/11 events, the image of Islam has been tarnished in the West,''

Ahhh.. I think it began a little before that. But go ahead and donate your money to people who already agree with you.
